It's been an incredible year for indie gaming, and while the Top 10 winners are locked in, we want to take a moment to bring your attention and recognition to some games which just missed out. A huge congratulations are in order to all the indie developers, and community voters, for participating in the 2020 Indie of the Year awards! IndieDB would like to wish you all the best for your continued indie development efforts through to 2020, and we hope to see you again for next year's awards!
Terrible. The top 3 games literally won because they barely have any reviews. Using this system any small game can just publish a few 10 reviews and violha, that appears to be exactly what happened. Have a hard time believing people voted for "She Will Punish Them" over Bannerlord and Among us.
I don't think reviews have anything to do with the voting. All I know is that Hypercharge was enticing people to vote on them way too much.
Indie DB is very much a place where developers congregate more so than players, so this listing makes sense. If it were player based, Among Us and Hades would dominate, followed by Bannerlord. If an indie game has mods, it will also tend to place higher if those tools are available at the same time they place. Additionally if an indie has a community that focuses on its DB audience, it also takes a top spot.
These results are user voted. HYPERCHARGE, Hydroneer and She Will Punish Them all did a great job of rallying their community. As pointed out by Thaiauxn, IndieDB is a unique place where you get out of it what you put into it. The awards are a way for us to showcase unique and interesting games, and give developers a new avenue for promotion and coverage. I kinda like that Among Us, Bannerlord and the obvious games don't just win by default.
Games like hydroneer arent that known but are more fun and have a bigger community than you think
Congratulations to each indie game that made the Top 10! For those who didn’t make it, keep on moving forward and don’t give up. You’ll get there in the end.
We cannot believe Hypercharge came 1st Place and also won Editors Choice award. Thank you so much to our community/those who voted.
Lastly, we’d like to give a huge thank you to the IndieDB staff for continuing to support such an amazing website.
Here’s to a better 2021. Take care and stay safe. :)
I remember following Hypercharge when it first came out! Ah, how we grow up. :) Good work man. Excited to check out some lets plays.
OMG! That's insane!!! We are Top 3! Thanks to everyone who supported us!
And congrats to all the developers who've made it to top100!
This list is surprising to me because I had never even heard of the top 3 games before. Strange how they won.
I and many many others have been following Hypercharge for a very long time, I still have fond memories of the Army Men series of games from 3DO. I was so happy to have found someone following in the spirit of those games.
Strange, I thought Project Wingman would at least be in the honorable mentions if not in the top 10.
Amazing! Great job everyone who made the top ten! I was very surprised when my game made the top 100. It would be nice to know how the other 90 games ranked, just out of curiosity.
Great work everyone, I'm looking forward to see those games out. Thanks for IndieDB for organizing this and thanks to Core for the support and prizes given. As always a pleasure to participate and this year, be in the TOP 10 :)
she will punish them looks like an asset flip. wtf people?
Congrats to all. Including honorable mentions. A lot of competition has be defeated!
Very glad to see a toy shooter finally winning 1st place from any accolade. Never thought it would be possible. Glad to know I was wrong.
Congrats to all devs. Keep up the good work! :)
