Welcome to the Players Choice: Best Upcoming Indies of 2021. The following games have been voted on my IndieDB's community from the Top 100 upcoming nominees, and represent the games those voters are most excited for in the next year and beyond.

‘Cheftastic!: Buffet Blast’ is the perfect mixture of familiar retro top-down shooters, coupled with the vibrant clarity of modern stylised graphics. As the player, you will take control of the chef as he tackles mutant food ingredients brought to life by other-worldly beings and bring back balance to the realm of Verdura.

With Online Multiplayer, build a vehicle with friends or independently build competing vehicles to race against each other. Then, drive and operate your creations within the most powerful part building physics sandboxes on the planet. A high-fidelity part-by-part and block-by-block destruction system will give incredibly satisfying damage and destruction as you have fun with your creations

4TH PLACE

Leaden Sky

From: Helghast_95

Leaden Sky isn't a standard side scrolling shooter game, it uses many mechanics standardized and popularized by FPS games such as free aiming, location-based damage, realistic recoil mechanics, smooth weapon reloading which can be cancelled, quick melee attacks, etc. It plays at a slower pace than might be expected, you'll need to be cautious with your advancement through each level and accurate with your shots, spewing ammo and going full Rambo isn't a good idea.

3RD PLACE

Immerse yourself in a metaphorical tale that reflects on what it means to be a hero. With your scarf as your only ally, your mission is to trap the rebellious souls that have created their own worlds. Explore beautiful 3D landscapes, each with its own unique mechanics. Travel through different areas and learn new abilities that will allow you to overcome interesting challenges. Jump, glide, or swing as you discover the secrets of these new worlds.

Battle Cry of Freedom, brings brutal real-time first and third person combat set in the 19th Century America, presenting players with the opportunity to re-fight the American Civil War as either the Union or the Confederates. It features a wide range of Troop Types, ranging from the common soldiers to musicians and artillery, all with their own purpose and tasks.

1ST PLACE

Isonzo

The Player's Choice winner for Upcoming Indies in 2021 is Isonzo! World War One has arrived in the mountains of the Italian Front - beautiful but deadly in equal measure. Inspired by the two year struggle for control of the Isonzo river valley and Alps during World War One, Isonzo elevates the WW1 Games Series, figuratively and literally. This developer has established a precedent for top-notch, immersive, and intense WW1 shooters with past titles including Tannenberg and Verdun. The bar of quality remains high, and the promise of this game can't be overstated!

Supported by Tripwire Presents

The 2021 awards are proudly supported by Tripwire Presents. Since developing and self-publishing successful franchises like Rising Storm/Red Orchestra, Killing Floor and Maneater, developer Tripwire Interactive set its sights on an exciting new venture. Tripwire Presents, Tripwire's indie publishing label, leverages the studio's experience and resources to provide independent developers with the tools and mentorship needed to fully realize their game's potential. With the recent release of Chivalry 2 from Torn Banner Studios, plus other notable titles such as Espire 1: VR Operative from Digital Lode and Road Redemption developed by EQ Games and Pixel Dash Studios - and many titles yet to be released - Tripwire Presents is quickly becoming known as one of the brightest new faces in Indie Publishing.

Will there be a release of the actual vote numbers? It's my first time actively participating, not sure if that's how it's always resolved. Would love to know where my game ended up and how much difference there was to the top 10 games. After such a long voting process the outcome feels very much in the dark.

I personally have not seen nor recall DBolical releasing voting results of the awards before. I do think doing so can help improve transparency from the site.

Hi, we don't generally release voting numbers in order to prevent vote-botting (knowing how many votes it takes would make it much easier for malicious people to "game" the system). However, we can privately give individual game/mod creators the range they placed in the awards, and it's then up to you if you'd like to share that information with your audience. If you'd like to know, shoot me a message on-site :)

To be honest I don't think it helps vote-botting at all because there's already info about all the votes placed here Indiedb.com
Only 8.4k votes, that's very easy to game for malicious people anyway, without showing us the exact numbers for the top 10 or better yet - top 100.

Anyway, I would love to know the vote count and placement for Soulash.
