MegaGlest is an open source 3D real time strategy engine and game. Featuring particle effects for units, resources, and tilesets!
Platforms
While the game is officially supported on Linux and Windows, community contributed builds exist for Mac OS X and FreeBSD. Up to eight players fight in multi-player games (over Internet or LAN) across all supported platforms and against the various difficulty levels of AI players.
History
MegaGlest is heavily based on the widely known Glest, which it forked from in early 2010. Like its predecessor, MegaGlest is available under liberal licensing terms and can be downloaded free of charge.

Hell yeah, I remember the original Glest. Gotta try this one out now :)
How is the engine different than glest?
Well, it supports up to 8 players now...particles for units and tilesets, a masterserver, multiplayer is much more stable (before cross platform wouldn't work), mod download center, map preview, two more CPU modes (Easy and mega)and you can customize their "hardness" too, faction preview, loading screens, observer mode, better selecting, AI and pathfinder is improved, and a lot of other cool stuff. Well it is/was actually a fork, so kinda. MegaGlest is going to be merged with Glest Advanced Engine, sometime later though. We'll need a lot of help, since we only have a few developers (around 5ish) and a few testers. So spread the word!
