A free-roaming squad based RPG. Focusing on open-ended gameplay features rather than a linear story. Be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a mercenary, a business owner, a doctor, a bandit... the list goes on.

  • Original take on the RTS-RPG hybrid genre. No "hero" characters with artificially stronger stats than everybody else- Every character and NPC you meet is potentially an equal, and has a name, a life.
  • You are not the chosen one. You're not great and powerful. You don't have more 'hitpoints' than everyone else. You are not the center of the universe, and you are not special. Unless you work for it.
  • Freeform gameplay in a seamless game world stretching over 400 square kilometers. The game will never seek to limit you or restrict your personal play style.
  • Variation and possibilities of gameplay. Be good, be evil, be a business man, be a thief, live in a town, live in the desert, join the army, fight the army, travel alone, travel in hordes, build a fortress, raze a city.
  • Purchase and upgrade your own buildings to use as safe fortified havens when things go bad, or use them to start up a business.
  • Carry your wounded squad mates to safety and get them all home alive.
  • Dynamic, ever changing world. Support or hinder whoever you wish, or keep to yourself, the world won't stop moving. This is not just a "game", you are living and surviving in a simulated world.
  • Absolutely no Level-scaling. The world does not level up along with you, and the shops don't change their inventory to only items matching your level. At the start of the game almost everyone will be stronger than you, and survival will always be a struggle.
  • Realistic medical system that affects gameplay. A character with a wounded leg will limp or crawl and slow the party down, wounded arms means you must use your sword one-handed or not at all. Lose an eye and it will affect your field of vision. Blood loss means you can pass out, and the blood will attract predators. Exhaustion affects performance and is increased by equipment weight, weather, blood loss and thirst. Severed limbs will need expensive robotic replacements.
  • Intelligent AI that allows for characters to reason and work towards long-term goals and desires. Squads work together and carry their wounded to safety. Characters can be setup to take care of micromanagement for you.
  • Aid or oppose the various factions in the world while striving for the strength and wealth necessary to simply survive in the harsh desert.
  • Independently developed with no design influences, or alterations dictated by men in gray suits who have never played a game before in their lives.
  • Original game world. There are no fantasy-knock-off cliches. No magic.

Game balancing is actually the more time consuming part of adding features so don’t get too hyped up for a release soon, we still don’t have an ETA as there’s still a lot to clean up. Kenshi needs to age like a fine old cheese to reach it’s beautiful not-so-buggy state…

Anyway, here’s what we’re working on right now:

HUNGER

Hunger has now been added so it will be possible to die of starvation over a long amount of time. Character appearances will change to reflect the state of physical strength or malnutrition – again this is early stages and needs a lot of testing and balance.

TECH-TREE REVAMP

We’ve now finished adding lots of different foods, crops (cotton, cacti…), boozes, a new power system (dependent on fuel or wind strength) and, of course, you’ll be able to start hunting skins for leather making. Research has been re-balanced so that it’s faster, plus it’s gonna cost items/artifacts instead of Cats from now on.

CRIME & ASSASSINATION

Thievery needs a lot more balancing but it’s improved greatly since the current available experimental version. Buildings have things to steal, guards are more alert and we’ve fixed it up so the player doesn’t get busted for accidental clicks, or from looking inside unlocked containers. At the moment, we’re doing a lot of testing to make sure it’s not too easy/ too hard, and citizens are reacting normally etc.

The crime reactions in the dialogue has needed a lot of editing this week, if the reactions are too specific or too vague it can become too noisy and ends up sounding like jibberish. So it’s needed a good amount of testing to make sure the reactions fit all possible situations and to make sure people react realistically.

We’re also in the middle of adding the assassination ability, a way to knock people out in stealth mode.

We’ve pretty much finished improving water reflection in-game now, plus Oli’s also added some more details like floating scum etc.

Phoenix LXII should be adorned in jewels and topped with a crown with the finest gold around. I understand the shot is taken within the current assets however this is just a suggestion for the future - after the landscaping of the world is finished of course :). Any ETA on more lore? I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I purchased this game a long time ago on Steam. I have not played it in a while, but man since I looked at this project page I want to get back in there. You seem to have made the world a lot more enticing.

I don't mean any offense, but the character face models look really, REALLY, ugly. Will there be any touch ups for that or anything? Almost all of the face models look as though they are 40+. Cant have a bad *** team of mid 20 dudes. Hopefully there will be a facelift, or at least a face lift mod.

Kenshi is a very ambitious game, it is as of the moment I'm writing this in a very unfinished state, but it's fun to play and it looks like with more love and care, this will be an absolutely great game.

Therefore I'm voting this a 10, I also bought the game to support the (currently) only developer working on it.

Despite the crashes, the content the game has now, made by only a single developer is very impressive in my opinion.

In it's current state, it deserves a one.

But because it's being updated and because its from one dude, it deserves a 4.

When its finally released, hopefully it will be worth a 10.
I don't see why people are just spamming 10 on this, lets be honest. in its current state, it is pretty sh*t. But we can all agree it WILL turn out great. (Don't hate me for the low rate, i'll re-review it with a high score as the game is being made. Or when its finished.)
