A free-roaming squad based RPG. Focusing on open-ended gameplay features rather than a linear story. Be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a mercenary, a business owner, a doctor, a bandit... the list goes on.

  • Original take on the RTS-RPG hybrid genre. No "hero" characters with artificially stronger stats than everybody else- Every character and NPC you meet is potentially an equal, and has a name, a life.
  • You are not the chosen one. You're not great and powerful. You don't have more 'hitpoints' than everyone else. You are not the center of the universe, and you are not special. Unless you work for it.
  • Freeform gameplay in a seamless game world stretching over 400 square kilometers. The game will never seek to limit you or restrict your personal play style.
  • Variation and possibilities of gameplay. Be good, be evil, be a business man, be a thief, live in a town, live in the desert, join the army, fight the army, travel alone, travel in hordes, build a fortress, raze a city.
  • Purchase and upgrade your own buildings to use as safe fortified havens when things go bad, or use them to start up a business.
  • Carry your wounded squad mates to safety and get them all home alive.
  • Dynamic, ever changing world. Support or hinder whoever you wish, or keep to yourself, the world won't stop moving. This is not just a "game", you are living and surviving in a simulated world.
  • Absolutely no Level-scaling. The world does not level up along with you, and the shops don't change their inventory to only items matching your level. At the start of the game almost everyone will be stronger than you, and survival will always be a struggle.
  • Realistic medical system that affects gameplay. A character with a wounded leg will limp or crawl and slow the party down, wounded arms means you must use your sword one-handed or not at all. Lose an eye and it will affect your field of vision. Blood loss means you can pass out, and the blood will attract predators. Exhaustion affects performance and is increased by equipment weight, weather, blood loss and thirst. Severed limbs will need expensive robotic replacements.
  • Intelligent AI that allows for characters to reason and work towards long-term goals and desires. Squads work together and carry their wounded to safety. Characters can be setup to take care of micromanagement for you.
  • Aid or oppose the various factions in the world while striving for the strength and wealth necessary to simply survive in the harsh desert.
  • Independently developed with no design influences, or alterations dictated by men in gray suits who have never played a game before in their lives.
  • Original game world. There are no fantasy-knock-off cliches. No magic.

What are hivers?

The name says it all, hivers are a hive based race who work for one goal: to strengthen their hive and serve their queen. Often referred to in slang as bug or insect men by foreigners, hive people are physically very different to humans and Shek, they are relatively bloodless, and their wider eye positions give them a larger field of view.


Apart from their queen, they are all sexless, they have no concept of he, she, or even ‘I’ for that matter, since they work as a collective with no individual needs or aspirations. Hivers hatch from eggs, the only member of society able to reproduce is the queen via parthenogenesis. New queens can be made by having the queen’s eggs fertilized by another hiver.

Other than the queen there are three subraces of hiver: Soldiers (the guardian brutes), Workers (the farmers and labourers) and Princes (the intellects and assassins). Enforced by the queen’s pheromones, all members of society work selflessly together for the good of the hive, even crime is extremely rare since there is no real motivation for it in the homogeneous hives. When it comes to outsiders however, the hive people can be extremely deceptive and untrustworthy.

Bug juice

The western hive people are vegetarian, mainly living on cacti and other plant based foods due to their lesser hunting skills and superior farming/gathering skills. Their high-in-cactus diet, means that they are able to produce a kind of super hemp by using their manure as both a fertilizer and additive during it’s fermentation process. Bug juice (known as ‘nutrients’ to the hivers) is an extremely potent and addictive substance known throughout the world.


  • Southern Hives

The Souther Hives’ (location TBC) society goal is to be the sole thinking race in existence; everyone else in the world is seen as a threat to be destroyed for the hive’s well-being. They tend to be territorial and aggressive of outsiders within their area however they will only fight when numbers are in their favour.

  • Western Hives

Thinking in the opposite direction to their cousins, the western hivers see warfare as the least conductive method for Hive survival. Instead, they mainly seek to strengthen their hives pragmatically through industry and trade with other factions so that they can build up a strong defensive military deterrent.


When a queen dies, her subjects all either die, lose their minds or become lost "Ronin". Alternatively, if a hive person spends too long from the hive, without the queen’s pheromones controlling them they may ‘defect’ to freedom and become an individual, a ronin. Most ronin will die as a result of separation, if madness doesn’t destroy them first. As a result of suddenly going from a higher purpose to nothing but the self, ronins who survive are the most existentially confused and depressed of people.

Phoenix LXII should be adorned in jewels and topped with a crown with the finest gold around. I understand the shot is taken within the current assets however this is just a suggestion for the future - after the landscaping of the world is finished of course :). Any ETA on more lore? I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I purchased this game a long time ago on Steam. I have not played it in a while, but man since I looked at this project page I want to get back in there. You seem to have made the world a lot more enticing.

I don't mean any offense, but the character face models look really, REALLY, ugly. Will there be any touch ups for that or anything? Almost all of the face models look as though they are 40+. Cant have a bad *** team of mid 20 dudes. Hopefully there will be a facelift, or at least a face lift mod.

Kenshi is a very ambitious game, it is as of the moment I'm writing this in a very unfinished state, but it's fun to play and it looks like with more love and care, this will be an absolutely great game.

Therefore I'm voting this a 10, I also bought the game to support the (currently) only developer working on it.

Despite the crashes, the content the game has now, made by only a single developer is very impressive in my opinion.

In it's current state, it deserves a one.

But because it's being updated and because its from one dude, it deserves a 4.

When its finally released, hopefully it will be worth a 10.
I don't see why people are just spamming 10 on this, lets be honest. in its current state, it is pretty sh*t. But we can all agree it WILL turn out great. (Don't hate me for the low rate, i'll re-review it with a high score as the game is being made. Or when its finished.)
