Our Unity contest has come to a close, with over 50 entires and 10 amazing finalists, the quality of entries has been amazing. We asked for original concepts and we had an amazing response but in the end there can only be 2 winners. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Unity 3D for the amazing prizes, both the Unity iPhone and the Unity Pro licenses are worth over $3600!

Before you find out who the winners are why not take a look at the ten finalists who all made it so difficult to pick winners. Honorable mention goes out to Pirates of new Horizons whom both the Unity and IndieDB team agreed had the best art direction. And also an honorable mention to Bloom who we felt had a very interesting gameplay mechanic.

RUNNER UP: Ayla

Ayla is a decendant of an ancient great empire that once created a device that could manipulate gravity, but their careless use of it shifted the world violently out of balance. The device was sealed away in a great temple for decades but as an alien threat has come to seek the power that once shook the universe Ayla decides to take the device to the planets core and use it to fight off the attackers. Ayla wins a Unity Pro Licence worth $1200.

You can build your ship any way you like in the ship builder – try to find the coolest ship-design for the puzzle at hand! Bob Came in Pieces wins a Unity Pro / iPhone Pro license worth $2400.

I'm not sure they can. Didn't steve say ""intermediate layers between the platform and the developer ultimately produces sub-standard apps."?
It basically means a no-go to third party development tools for iphone apps because the product will become "sub-standard".

I hope he changes his mind though. (Maybe one day I can convince my brother to program a porco rosso game for ipwn ^^.)

He said that, however he was referring to flash. Steve jobs himself has demonstrated a Monotouch game during the iPhone 4 launch. Also all Unity games have been constantly accepted onto the iPhone marketplace without problems.

Yes, I remember the people from Gameloft weren't too happy about that. But as NullSoldier mentioned, Steve's beef is with Adobe.

Meanwhile, the Android platform continues to take a bigger part of the smartphone market..
