Whoa – a lot happened today!

I got kind of tired of seeing the same old prototype boxes over and over again on the walls of the game, so I decided it was high time that I actually did something about it… the graphics were stifling my creativity in level design even! Before I go into too much detail, here’s a side by side comparison of the “level complete” screen so you can see what I’m talking about:

Graphic Comparison

Well, I guess that was more of a ‘above and below’ comparison, but whatever… holy pixels batman!

Run Die Repeat holy pixels batman

“The Joker’s doing the cartridge tilt maneuver again!”

Things are really starting to take shape here graphically!

And that’s kind of exciting – makes it feel more like a quality gameboy game instead of one of those bootleg Wisdom Tree ones. I’m even starting to work on some of the finer details as well – little bits of movement in the background, like this control panel:

“Bleep Bloop Bleepy Blop”
“How dare you say that about my mother!”

But wait, there’s more!

Really! In addition to all this, I’ve also changed the status bar/HUD-ish thing at the top of the screen:

It’s probably not even close to it’s final form yet, but it’s far, far better, and infinitely more readable at a glance. I’m not trying to emulate all the sucky things that the old GameBoy brings to mind here!

Oh! And what would a post be without a video preview?

Check it out!
