Welcome to Zarknorth! Combining an adventurous environment with an exciting platformer that we have always dreamed of making, in the world of Zarknorth you start on a randomly generated planet with only basic skills and technology, explore and travel to other worlds while gaining knowledge and technology to level up your home planet with what you find and build anything you can imagine!
Zarknorth is no longer in development, however its creators have moved on to their company, Pyratron Studios.
The game will feature a main story mode, in which you are given a map of the universe, with randomly generated planets, moons, and more.
Items can be crafted from recipes found along your journey, and attachments can be added to existing items. You must use skills and perks to advance through a "tech-tree" of objects, they can also be disassembled so you can always get the majority of your materials back.
The game play mechanics will be very involved, our goal is to put the player into an environment that feels real with everything going on, the wiring system for example will be a key game play feature that will unlock lots of functionality.
We would love to have everything unique, weapons, enemies, skills, and more. Only some of that is possible in the time frame we have, and will continue to develop and add as much as possible in updates after the release.
Planets are randomly generated with unique biomes, structures, and a world full of potential. Exploring will never be the same! Non player characters (NPCs) you find can help you conduct research and learn about these alien planets you find. Zarknorth is yours to mold, a story within a sandbox!
We have already added a great number of features that bring the game alive, and add realism and just a place to tinker with mechanics. Lightning adds to the environment while fire could burn down your house. Pipes make transporting liquid easy and wiring makes automation simple.
The game is expected to be mid 2014, for now we would really like it if you would check out the forums and help shape the game! If you like what you see, please feel free to leave a comment or tell your friends. It doesn't have to be a huge community, but you never know what we could make if you told your friends and joined the conversation!
Hi Everyone,
We've been busy working on some pretty big features in Zarknorth as well as finishing some old ones, fixing bugs, and working on some new stuff you will see in our next progress update.
One of these big features is the long awaited wiring system, which in my opinion is much more powerful than those seen in other games like Minecraft or Teraria.
The system is made up of electronic "blocks" as seen above, which perform calculations, primarily made up of logic gates. These blocks can be connected to one another, and connected to input/output devices like levers, lamps, pressure plates, etc.
If your interested, here is a full list of wiring related items:
Wire, Power Source (Others will exist later), Lever, Button, Pressure Plate, Indicator, Wall Lamp, Table Lamp, Fluorescent Light, AND Gate, OR Gate, NOR Gate, NOT Gate, XOR Gate, XAND Gate, NAND Gate, PNP Transistor, NPN Transistor (Works as AND Gate for now), and Timer.
More or less, the wiring system is done, except for a few small glitches and items that have not been added.
I had an idea a while back about a sort of, sandbox/freebuild mode, allowing infinite access to items and tools to manipulate the world. I decided to try this and I think it is a great addition, it also has a different level selection UI (Not the universe navigator) that allows you to share maps and customize the world generation process a bit more.
Once you have loaded/created a map, you can play as normal, or hit the game-mode icon to switch from survival to sandbox mode, which grants access to many tools to assist building.
And access to any item you will ever need:
Among other features were an auto saving function and hand animations, as in being able to see your pickaxe move, see block places, etc.
As usual, a lot of bugs were fixed and many small things were added. I'm most likely only going to name the big features we work on in these updates from now on, it's up to you to see all the little details :)
As always, if you haven't joined us, register at our site to be the first to play!
Happy Holidays everybody! Check out the 12 days of development blogs event!
Love the wiring system, good progress is being made.
Amazing work, I'm stoked for this to be released!
I Can't Wait To Try This Out!!
Looks really good. I would definitely play this when it comes out. I hope there is a mod API of sorts. They normally improve games a real lot.
Thanks! We have been looking into making a mod API after the game is released.
Good job Cyral! The game makes more and more progress!

P.S. 1st! (if maybe this page becomes popular with loads of comments and stuff ;) )
