Some very sad news unfortunately - Cedric Lutes, who was Zaxtor Znort in the AMC TC as well as Oblivion and Trequonia TC, has passed away. The news came as a massive shock to us on the team, and we give our deepest condolences to his family. Zaxtor was an avid nature enthusiast who loved animals more than anything else; he was also a hard worker and was constantly working on new projects. Whilst the gameplay of his work was extremely difficult, there was a passion and imagination not seen elsewhere in any other projects. Mikko Sandt has done a detailed write up on Cedric and his life on his MSDN site.
Zaxtor Znort will live on in the AMC TC; if you haven't checked out his other work and are looking for some extremely challenging puzzle solving and gameplay, take a look at his work. Rest in piece Cedric.
Sorry to hear this, may Cedric RIP and best wishes and prayers to their family.
RIP Zaxtor. You and your maps will live on in our hearts...
This is quite a shock to hear. Zaxtor's maps may have been a journey and a half to finish, but they had their memorable moments. RIP, you magnificent fossaman.
Probably the most unique Duke Nukem 3D mapper to ever grace the mapping scene and most likely the last.
RIP Zaxtor.
A truly terribly and sad passing indeed :(
My sincerest wishes and comforts to his family an friends.
The world will be all the more poorer without him.
Rest well Cedric.
Man, that's pretty rough. I never knew the guy in any capacity since I'm not a Duke Contributor but I loved his Fossa OC and the really out there levels he made in AMC TC and some of his videos with Trequonia. even if the some of the puzzle elements or platforming sections "Especially the beginning and end part of Jungle Base" had me swearing up a storm.
I can only pass my condolences to the Rest of the AMC TC contributors and his family.
Rest easy Zaxtor.
RIP
Even though I never knew him personally, his work as a mapper was absolutely impeccable. My sincerest condolences to everyone near and dear to him.
So sad! RIP Zaxtor. It was you who told me (@duke4) that you never run out of ideas, and to this day, you did not .... I'll miss those now for ever :(
It is hard to hear about the loss of a man so great and maps so hard.
Oh, that's really sad, I have been talking recently with him through messages via youtube.
I was fashinating by his creativity. He was also very kind answering all my questions.
His mods\maps are unique and will remain with us and entertain gamers for a very long time.
My sincerest condolences to everyone near to him.
PS: I know he was working on remastering his mod Oblivion; I think it would be cool if someone could release the work he had already done; that would be the best way to compliment his art.
There you are, modding away. And then suddenly you hear that a team member passed away......, and suddenly modding doesn't seem to be the most important part of the day anymore. And life seems suddenly so real, so....
had the same happening to me when Jasper died, team member of my Strider Mountain mod team. So i know how that feels, feels **** to be honest...
Didn't know the man behind the Oblivion and Trequonia TC but have seen his work, he clearly will be missed by many!

This is so sad when a modder passes away. 😿
R.I.P
Rest in peace, dude
Rest in peace!
Oh, that's so sad to hear, I was glad to see him back some time ago with plans for his "Oblivion" reissue, and then... RIP fellow mapper, one of the pillars.
I found out so late. In my adolescence I enjoyed breaking my head with the levels of OBLIVION, I admired the great creative design of levels and even more its extension. rest in peace, your levels will always live in the hearts of the players.
Oh, so sad to hear such news. I've heard he was working on the remake of "Oblivion" TC, and today I opened 'credits.txt' for "The AMC Squad" and read the last line... Didn't know him personally, but liked his maps a lot. I remember playing his maps loooong ago, he was mapping for vanilla Duke back then in 2003 (EDuke was released later in 2004). RIP man, you were a good and productive mapper. Your mind-blowing and creative work will be forever in my Duke Nukem 3D collection.
