Red Shift – A Grand Strategy in a 4X’s clothing
The first game under development from currently 1 man development team Messier8
Red Shift is a fusion of the action of a 4X and the depth of a Grand Strategy, all played out on a real time strategy map covering hundreds of solar systems including our very own.
The games grand campaign begins in an intriguing alternate history scenario of Soviet victory in the race for the moon, by capturing German rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.
The year is 2061 and you must take control of a real nation on earth, and guide it through periods of exploration, to planetary colonialism and finally interstellar imperialism. The games features include:
Small Update:Completely ripped out the resource/goods system as It was really irking me. I am Implementing a new system, where you have finished goods, and raw commodities. The planet panel tells you what resources are abundant on the surface and the atmosphere. The surface elements show you what goods you are going to get automatically from a region there, and the atmosphere elements are for terraforming/liferating purposes.
Here's the resources of Jupiter.
Regions will automatically generate resources from these depending on many many factors, including population, infrastructure and industrialism. Of course some elements are very rare, e.g. Uranium, Tritium so you will have to build/expand special industries to get those because it's extremely unlikely a planet will have a large percentage of Uranium. Here's the production screen, showing World Market prices for everything(Blue is market price, green/red is price rise/drop, grey is how much of it you have).
(I'm well aware the choices of commodities may seem a bit random, they are likely to be changed and swapped around in future, nothing is set in stone)I've also started programming the AI, things are starting to get interesting. It's starting to feel like a game. It's just a screenshot of a debug test game, no nation will have a fleet at the game start.
Also Star maps look a lot better with a star background.
Thank you!
Archived? Ceased development?
And it looked interesting too.
I hope this isn't dead! You mentioned a release back in July. Is that still coming?
How will construction work? Will it be like 4-5 minutes or like 3 days of in game, just curious.
At the moment build times are tiny just for debugging purposes, and satellites build straight away. The build times will actually range from a few days to a few hundred, terraforming will take longer though researching technologies decreases this time.
sounds good to me actually, so can we name cities on planet or are they random? and what about the business model for this game? will it be expensive, or will it be free?
You will be able to rename ships, regions and capitals! It will cost around 20 dollars :)
looks interesting but ive got a question.
since you have fighting in this game. who are the opponents? other nations on earth?
if so, do you have to defeat them planetside aswell?
it seems odd that they would wage war in space but act all gentlemanly on the ground.
There will be inter-regional warfare though it will be automated. You could for example try to invade France as Germany.
is there way to influence this, since it is hard to see the uk beating russia or usa in a conventional war
I couldn't ask better :)
