Project Zomboid is an open-ended zombie-infested sandbox. It asks one simple question – how will you die? Whether surviving in Knox County free-roam or controlling Indie Stone mascot Baldspot in his quest to save his injured wife Kate – death is always a certainty. Quite how long you manage to put it off is another matter…

Hello, i recently joined to play project zomboid and i bought it. So after it was installed i double clicked it and a screen popped up showing if i wanted to launch it in 32 or 64 bit. Since i have a 64b machine, i clicked 64. A small screen pops up for a split second and then goes away, then i try to hit 64b compatability mode, same thing happens, Please help! |

Hello silbersmith, this is most likely because you may have a 64Bit machine but either not a 64Bit OS (less likely) or you do not have Java 64 Bit installed (more likely) or it's somewhere where the game can't find it. You need to have Java installed to start the game. If you can start the 32x version of the game, that means you have 32 Bit Java installed. |

We need more intel in order to help. Which version of the game are you trying to run? Click the link in my previous post and install Java 32Bit. |

well like what |

The cmd window of it should show an error. The message itself or even a screenshot of it would help. or if you're doing something in-game that might cause the crash. Edited by: nasKoo |

This thread is rapidly spiraling out of control... Well I have the same problem, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and I have Java 7 64 bit. My Java is up to date, I just downloaded the update. Now there was no error message and the command window only flashed across the screen so I couldn't get a screenshot. I only just recently started using Desura because I was getting tired of checking the forums to see if the next update was available, so I'm not too familiar with the program... My apologies, I should have looked at the FAQ instead of posting. Oh well, let's hope this works... Ok, so I have updated my driver, rebooted my system, PZ wouldn't start, same as before. I reinstalled the game, still fails to start. I have played Project Zomboid on this machine before and it worked perfectly fine, so I don't know if it's just this version or that it's running through Desura. I have run out of ideas to get this game running again. |

A flashing window when starting the game indicates that the game cannot find your Java installation. On a 64 Bit OS you can install both Java 32 and 64 Bit. |

Love this game, but it's always a pain in the butt to intstall and run. EDIT: Now stuck on validation like so many others. Every time I think about playing this game I'm confronted by update/install/launch issues. Currently suck on "Removing Old Files ... " after updating. Here's what I want to do: Press Play -> Play Game Thanks Edited by: Icemelt |

I'm also having problems launching PZ, just installed Desura and PZ, try to launch but a window flashes open for a second with a bunch of text I've downloaded Java in its default folder and the problem persists. Any ideas? |

Same here. It's failing to find some classes. Rumour has it this is down to incorrect case on some files but I've so far not been able to resolve it. I realise this is alpha but still, the thing should be able to launch so we can test the actual game. Noone seems willing help on this forum either. You'd think it would be reasonable to at least patch the desura build so it at least runs. |

Sorry for the late response guys. I've been on vacation. @Icemelt Please go to the Common folder of your Desura install folder and delete the Zomboid folder there. Another option would be downloading the game from here: Indiedb.com @Keough1206 Please make sure that you have the right version of Java installed and are also trying to play the game via the corresponding exe (or Desura prompt button). @mongrol The Desura build is the ONLY build. Desura is currently the only provider of PZ. |

I have the same problem as silbersmith. I am running on an E-Machine with Windows XP, an Intel Celeron D CPU 3.33GHz and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200... I know I am running on a x32 copy of XP and I downloaded Java x32 and deleted it and redownloaded it about 10 times and nothing changes... I read the entire log and the only error I could find is Java.lang.IllegalStateException: Function is not supported. I am starting to want my money back... I feel like I wasted $8 |

That's related to your graphics card driver, so updating that should help. Edited by: nasKoo |

Yep I finally got that fixed lol Installed the original driver and got it fixed. Thanks |

Please try playing the game in "safe / compatibility mode" which is done by right clicking the game in your Steam library and then selecting "safe / compatibility mode" from the menu. |

I am having the quick pop up no game launch problem am running windows 7 have got the latest 32 and 64 bit java's installed did not change anything during the install so they should be in the correct place they have all ways been. I have never had a java related problem ever before. The game will not launch on either desura or steam in 32x-32compat 64x-64compat or normal or compat mode on steam..... have been trying for a week now. Edit: I have had the game for a pretty long time now and it had all ways worked previously. I ran the batch file and got this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\Project Zomboid>set path=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common
