Hi, we are the Indie Devs and after viewing the results of Phase 1 MOTY....the dust cleared, we saw an astonishly low voter turn out for indie/standalone games.
Indie projects, being a tiny FRACTION of the entire voting scheme, were practically pushed aside.
Not just for MOTY either. General views and watchers showed poor results.
Thus, the Indie Devs were formed. We are a dedicated group reviewing, interviewing, and publishing great indie games to see and play.
If you have any confusion on what indie/standalone games are: They are projects that do not require another game to run. Simply download and run, works right off the bat!
We hope the community of Moddb sheds more light on the indie side of things for Phase 2 of MOTY.
Wonder whose competing? No problem! We got them listed:

A total conversion which aims to turn the FPS C&C Renegade into Tiberian Sun with a bit of Firestorm thrown in.
Mount&Blade is a 3D, open-ended, single-player, third- or first-person, computer role-playing game, which has a medieval setting, without any fantasy elements. Created and distributed by the Turkish development house TaleWorlds.
Remember 1996's Command & Conquer: Red Alert? Now, enter the fray as a single combatant on the battlefield, fighting alongside the Allies or the Soviets for global supremacy in this mod that adheres to the classic world created by Westwood Studios.

Infinity: The quest for Earth
Make a name for yourself in one of the largest, most open-ended space sims ever made. Infinity utilizes procedural techniques to generate hundreds of thousands of seamless worlds, all ripe for privateers to pillage, explore, trade and battle over!
Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is a title for the PC based on the novel and the film of the same name. A modern 3D adventure set in 1993 players will play the role of Dr. Alan Grant which follows a hybrid story based on the original media.
Lux
Lux, set in a steam punk universe. As an unknown force is consuming all light sources throughout this universe. Light has become a commodity, and light-hunters scour the galaxies to collect what little light they can find, for both trade and survival.
OverDose
OverDose is a Class/Team based multiplayer game set on a post apocalyptic Earth. Divided into two factions, the CMC and MDR battle out for supremacy over the destroyed cities of a war torn world.
Overgrowth
Overgrowth takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to battle each other. Taking advantage of Wolfire's brand new Phoenix Engine to create an astoundingly immersive experience.
Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising
Join the fray of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 firsthand in Apocalypse Rising, a mod that finds you in the boots of an Allied G.I. or a Soviet Conscript in the heat of battle, fighting among all of the units and buildings from the original game.
If you are an indie/standalone group, or anyone willing to help us show off indie games and build a community right here on Moddb, Join our group.
Thanks for reading.
I did vote for indie games, since I like them so much :)
We appreciate it, thanks! :)
Thanks for doing this, I appreciate it!
GENIUS.
yar indie games all the way \o/ hopefully i will be able to add to the list in 2k9 ;)
Hope Lux comes out soon, very interesting concept.
Yeh I voted for Lux. A unique take on puzzle solving and looks quite interesting.
I didn't really like any of the entries selected for indie or mod. I cannot bring myself to vote on anything.
Eh? I know every single one of those indie games and are looking forward to playing all the unreleased ones... Especially infinity quest for earth.
Go indie developers!
I'm not voting for retail products.
Many are not retail. :)
And I will happily vote for them.
well to bad for you. The previous winners of MOTY all went retail!
The difference being that some of these are already retail and haven't won. What are professional games doing in an amateur competition?
Retail has nothing to do with professional. Do you think all those indie games sold on Steam are made by professional studios?
Those are made by people during their free time an probably don't get paid during the development.
Most don't get rich from it and use the money to develop new games or to finance server costs and support.
Eventually, selling games is the dream of most modders and indie developers.
Pay for a game? Why, I'd rather spend all my money on manga and twinkies! Those indie devs? They owe ME!
They want my vote don't they? Why would I vote for a game I don't care to own and would never play.
I vote on the merit of the game, not their moddb profile.
Well, it's still moddb, not indiedb ...
if thats so, why do they have an indie-game section?
The focus is on mods and you can't deny that. With you being an indie developer and part of this group, it's hard to accept, but moddb is first and foremost home of modifications.
So all the time we spend updating our profile, writing newspost, uploading images and videos and getting our fan informed is not appreciated because the url of the website says 'mod'?
If thats how people think, Im going to stop wasting my time on this, because I DO spend a lot of time on it. I hope you are an exception!
Its true that 'Mod'db is geared towards mods. That is why I formed this group in the first place, to show that an indie community exists as well.
With indie projects such a tiny fraction of what goes on around here at Moddb, I'm surprised this wasn't done sooner.
Not true at all - in fact we actually tried to change the sites name to GameCore (ran a beta for one month) but the idea what shot down by our community who thought that name was too generic. It was basically our attempt to show we are totally about getting to the "core of the game" and development, be it indies, mods, iphone, console etc.
In the past year we have actually been trying to beef up our representation of indies by attending GDC and talking to all devs there. So yeah I hope we can serve indies as well as we serve modders through a strong profile, promotion and everything else.
Amen to that!
I've been corrected. :)
it is because many mods go independent.
Well done Ninjadave, front page, awesome work mate!
they have not crimson crow or the hunted chronicle or zday or fall of the living not funky for me but i thinks vote Overdose
Voted for indies! Vote too! :D
I only voted for two things: one indy, one doom 3. :)
OVERGROWTH!!
RULES!!
Im sure you all know what I voted on... ;)
@L3TUC3 And why shouldn't they be able to get some attention this way? Isn't that the point of moddb?
Most indie games don't have a budget to pay for advertisements (hell, no budget at all). Also, every professional game from big studios get free advertisement on almost every game website and game magazine, whats the difference?
On moddb, indie games finally get the attention and respect they mostly don't get on big game websites.
Im sure moddb gets some benifits from having those projects on their website too! ;)
professional games from big studios do not get free advertisement on game websites or magazines. They have to pay big bucks. Remember the kanye and lynch fiasco at gamespot? The publisher paid gamespot a crapload to advertise on the site, and when an employee gave it a low score, jeff gerstmann, he was fired.
Anyway....I totally agree with you. Indie games are finally getting more attention, as well they should!
Woot Platinum Arts!
Thanks Phoenix hehe. Can't wait to show everyone your awesome work.
I think moddb has done a great job of helping to get more attention to Indie games. The moddb staff has been awesome out getting the word out about Platinum Arts Sandbox and I really can't thank them enough for all they've done. Besides moddb there isn't a lot of places to get attention for your game besides maybe fileplanet. Noesis has been pretty awesome as well :D
My last thought is I think there should potentially be some separation in the listings between free indie games and commercial indie games. Free indie games are a lot like making mods. Not sure how big of a deal it is but there is a bit of a difference between the two, especially the business model :) Take care!

We are not talking about real advertisement, we are talking about the type of advertisement mods get on moddb for example, atleast thats what 3TUC3 calls it.
