Hello, indieDB Community!

Welcome to the 5th article about our in development game, Nata.

If you want to find out more about our game, check out our other articles on our indieDB page.

After jumping to 3D modelling, our team did some concept art first for the environment as well as for the characters. In this article we're going to show you some of the characters concept art we've worked on in this past week.

Characters Concept Art

Before any type of thumbnails or sketches, we did a lot of research in order to create a moodboard for Nata's character that is available in the 2nd article.

It is also important to mention that almost all of the characters' design in Nata were based in real life Macao animals. Here we have the moodboard we've made of some Macao's animals we liked.

For creating Nata's NPCs concepts we first started off by doing some thumbnails of what they would be shaped like. These are some thumbnail examples.

After those thumbnails it was time for the sketches. These were the final sketches made for each of the thumbnails respectively.

After those base sketches we also did some sketches for specific Macao's animals we know we will have in Nata. For example, the blue-tailed skink and the chinese pangolin.

We will also have 2 guinea pig NPCs representing the real life pets of one of the twinkle frog studios members.

And last but not least, we decided to do some cat character designs as well.

Although cats and guinea pigs are not macanese animals, we believe that they would be great animals to have in our game since we can change the 3D model's texture and they would look like an entire new NPC.

Well, we reached the end of our 5th article!

Next article will be focused on main character studies and final design.

See you next week!
