You could try the demo of Steel Storm or Xonotic. Both are using the same engine.

So a Diablo in 3D ?
With different skilltrees?
Coop campaign multiplayer?
Different acts?
Endbosses?
Regions above ground?
Lots of loot?
Things to combine?
Different Weapons & magic?
Hardcore nightmare mode?
Headshots?(Hitboxes)
Lots of enemies like in Serious Sam?

Really awesome RTS.

It's fantastic that it got OpenSourced.
Something like that should happen more often, especially with good old games :D

Epic isn't epic anymore because they don't have Linux clients anymore.
So Towns having a Linux client makes Towns more epic then Epic.

Good Luck!

Big problem seems to be that those games are missing here on Desura - so no keys for no games.
But hopefully they will put them up here.

"In a new terminal tab/window execute this command: ps -a"
With "pgrep -f desura" there will only be the pids of desura.

"Use this command to launch gdb with the pid of the second Desura process: sudo gdb attach [pid]"
Why using it as root? It should work as normal user.
Biggest problem I see is that desura is a release-build without debugging symbols. So most stuff will be something like:
"0x0000000000000000 in ?? ()"

For the hole stuff a script could be written:
# (! no guaranty if that works !)

#!/bin/sh
# get newest pid of running desura
pidNewest=pgrep -fn desura
# get oldest pid of running desura
pidOldest=pgrep -fo desura

# create gdb cmd-arguments
dbgcmds="backtrace 10 info threads quit"
dbgcmdsmore="info threads thread apply all backtrace 15 quit"
dbgcmdscoredump="generate-core-file quit"

# put arguments in files
echo $dbgcmds > dbg.1
echo $dbgcmdsmore > dbg.2
echo $dbgcmdscoredump > dbg.3

# attach gdb, run arguments, save as log-file
gdb attach pidNewest -batch -x dbg.1 > newest.dbg1.log
gdb attach pidNewest -batch -x dbg.2 > newest.dbg2.log
gdb attach pidNewest -batch -x dbg.3 > newest.dbg3.log
gdb attach pidOldest -batch -x dbg.1 > oldest.dbg1.log
gdb attach pidOldest -batch -x dbg.2 > oldest.dbg2.log
gdb attach pidOldest -batch -x dbg.3 > oldest.dbg3.log

# remove argument-files
rm dbg.1
rm dbg.2
rm dbg.3

That should be that:
Blog.tametick.com

Hi,
we've got a ton of feedback after the cardinal quest free-day and the subsequent pay-as-you-wish day: both huge successes that I will talk more about shortly!

The most significant change to the game's direction tho is that the format is changing from free 3-levels demo and payed full version to Minecraft-style free Classic edition and payed Deluxe edition!

The upcoming Cardinal Quest Deluxe will be a ton better, including 3 new character classes and ~50% more content in terms of monsters, spells, items, weapon, etc..

Most importantly - everyone who bought or will buy the current full version of Cardinal Quest will get Cardinal Quest Deluxe for free!

Have fun and check out the now-free Cardinal Quest Classic,
-Ido.

----------------------------------------

Do I have to have the game already?
Has it to be a bought version?
Or is the free version enough (got the free versions on those free days)?
I read about the classic version (http://blog.tametick.com/2011/10/future-of-cardinal-quest-classic-and.html). Will you bring it here like those dudes(free and paid full version)?: Indiedb.com

You are right. MSDNAA isn't free itself. The university has some agreement with Microsoft. But it is free for me. That is the point.

There is no university or student version of the Unigine engine available. So which one should be bought? Indie or Professional? Both seem kind of odd for a university. Also why should they buy it when CryEngine and UnrealEngine and Unity3D are freely available with there tools and SDK? ;-)

ID Tech 4 - I hope they get it out really soon. Currently Ftp.idsoftware.com is down. I can't get anything from there.

Crystal Space seems currently really quite. I know that they try to get a version 1.9 and 2.0 out. But on their mailing-list and forum and website news are coming very slowly.

Ogre3D is just a graphics engine. Much more is needed for a game. Maybe GameKit would be a good point to start with.

I already did something with BGE. I think I stick with it for now. It has all needed tools build right in.

Unigine currently has some Indie-prices for their engine:
Unigine.com

What do you think about something like that?

I as a Linux user would love to use that engine but as being a student its price is still to high.
And why should I even bother when getting Windows 4free with MSDNAA and also getting UDK and CryEngine 4free?

Can someone recommend a good free (don't need to be open-source) (3D) game engine for Linux?

I was trying Desura on Linux. It seems to be a stand-alone version build on-top ioquake3. In the headline it says: "Platforms Windows, Linux"
So I thought I give it a try. Later I realized that the play-button is just for Windows. So it's kind of my vault.

Maybe I try your way another day or when it's finally inside Desura.

Thank you for your help!
