Shouldn't the circle radius decrease as you draw as well as be centred on the last drawn position?
Currently you can fly a really long time by spiralling.

While the art in the second iteration certainly fits the theme of a robot more, the first theme is definitely still good!
Definitely true about the quick iteration times. I think anyone who wants to learn programming should start of with quick iteration projects, similar to what you've been doing here.
As an exercise the company I work for took a one week break from normal activity and had each programmer work on starting and finishing a project with artists in support. I suggest others try this exercise. Make sure to actually publish at the end of the week, that's one of the most important parts!

There is definitely a Halo feel in that. But this evokes (for me) a much more pirate feel. It isn't heavy enough for tanks and doesn't really have anything which reminds me of the 40s.
Sorry to be so critical as I'm looking forward to playing it, but while the music is good I don't think it fits.

I hope to be proven wrong when I'm sitting in the menu :)

Iridescent - - 43 comments @ Solution to piracy?

I agree with the price not being an issue. Piracy happens whatever the price, I know this because we have released an app for £2 and it still gets pirated. This is not due to lack of quality either as it has been featured by Apple and Android in numerous regions.

Some people simply don't want to pay anything.
I find high prices of games simply loses sales. I don't pirate the newest Call of Duty, but I don't buy it due to the high price tag.
If I can't afford it, I don't play it. Simple as. I'm not entitled to play games I can't afford, or because the developers/publishers are immoral.

Similarly to MastaZavr, I found it difficult to understand what was going on. I think it is CTF and you deploy tanks to essentially deny paths.
BUT, I really loved the 'loading bar' until the next unit arrives. That could be made to look really cool later on if you have different units or what not :)

Look forward to future updates :)

I'm glad you took my post as intended (or at least it seems so!). I don't mean to offend, that art is on par with my skills afterall.
I look forward to updated graphics and a potential video :)

I'll start off with saying that I haven't downloaded the game.

Reasons for this are that the screens don't grab me. If you'd like to stick with screenshots I suggest improving the graphics. They don't have to be AAA budget, but if they look decent and are consistent then that is good.

It would help having a video (I think FRAPS is roughly $50, or you could use the trial version) as that shows what the player does more effectively.

Finally, The news post above is badly formatted and makes it annoying to read and makes me want to hit 'close tab'.

However, I'm tracking this game now in the hope it'll get somewhere good :) Please don't take my criticisms too harshly, but I thought I'd write something rather than leave you with no feedback.

If I had to choose an area of focus it would be graphics. I'm a coder, I can live with placeholder graphics and cubes but if I have to drag a friend in to play this it'll need to grab them too!

Good luck and hope you get to improve this title :)

Iridescent - - 43 comments @ [Update]A bit of a road block...

I suggest writing exactly how you'd like the game to work to give some structure for the future programmer. They don't want to join your team and find out you still have planning to do even though you have all these assets.
Personally, I'd be more willing to join if I just came, coded the game and then left. Sadly, I'm out of free time :(

PS: Good luck in finding a programmer and finishing this project, I like the art style!

Tank Charge please.

A tank charge could force your opponent into a tighter group which makes them easier to shoot.
Think how awesome it would be to push an opposing tank into a barrage of shots from another force of yours!

Then you would have half the legs!
Also, I presume on the off chance you think "Hey, I want to show him from a different angle" you can easily do it.

It may also be more difficult to model only half as we're so used to seeing whole animals.

Iridescent - - 43 comments @ Lessons From World War 2

The only problem I see (which should be solved by air strikes and artillery) is that if the enemy chooses to place lots of Mechanised Infantry near their base they will be difficult to beat as they have high defence against your poorly supplied tanks.
Area of Effect weapons can lessen this as the Mech. Inf. can't be as closely packed.

Otherwise, good article and I hope to see more soon :)

Oh, you might want to think of HQ units or supply dumps. The player who controls a supply dump gains bonuses radially from that area (like a smaller version of the main base). HQ units could give small bonuses to nearby units, such as speed bonuses for flanking manoeuvres.

How about making the foils around the whole side of the tank like skirting?
I may make the tank look more menacing... or a lot worse.
I really like the final design including the foils, but yes, it is a car from a distance.

With your current design, how about placing a small exhaust behind the turret. Large enough to stand out and say 'this is the back' but small enough to be judged insignificant.

I really liked this post about how the design has evolved, hope to see more :)

Very nice, hopefully the background 'stars' don't interfere too much. Much better having a clear 'you', 'enemy' colour thing at the top left and the gamemode bottom left. I presume the far left buttons will have things to do with turn control?

What is the added text? I can read 'Targetting enemy MG' is it saying what the units current 'thoughts' are?

I have once deliberately made the turn change just before the rocket was about to hit a wall killing a unit. Which means in the next 0.1 seconds the unit will die and the opposing player can do nothing about it.
It was fun torturing the guy :D

Do you have a video to show it better? It is a bit strange to focus on a background. A video would show how well it doesn't interfere :)

The thing about dead bodies is it would not stick with the theme of no-attachment to the troops. The commanders just need to get the job done, minimise casualties, but not care about deaths as such.
Even so, dead bodies would be nice. Although they would have to very faded out or else they would be in the way too much
