Knowledge of c++ and javascript, teaching myself 3D Modeling and concept art. Constantly tricking around in unity trying to make a game. So far with a few successful prototypes picking up things as I go.

That looks like the x wing from star wars mixed with the tie fighter but better :)

How do you keep getting models from lucasarts? Or do you just taje them out ofexisting games?

You should probably take a look at trying to get featured on IGN or gamespot, don't know weather you have tried this already, but there will probably be a lull in news after e3 they will be looking to fill.

How hard have you found it in unity to write custom GUI's like above, the most i've played with is creating a level generator that creates the level before runtime

The project looks cool, never played the game itself though , just seen videos of thermos for it. You should check out the unfinished clone wars episodes on star wars.com, they are really interesting to see them when the models are still really simplified etc.

Thanks for the reply,
Will probably stick to unity becuase i'm starting to make something that has the semblance of real progress, it would likely be just another steep learning curve to start with another engine, I wasn't aware that Unity features are now all free but will look into that.

Good luck with your game, look forward to seeing it released

As a matter of interest , how much of this could be done of this game for example (graphically speaking) in the free version of unity? Currently making a game myself in unity and wondering should i switch to unreal which has just gone free?

If your looking for procedural backgrounds for space theres an app someone has written called spacescape, if you look it up it it is fairly straight forward, not sure if it does planets though. I'd say it would be interesting though to try to write one (But obviously that takes too much time :))

This stuff looks really crisps, great atmospheric feel. I don't know about anyone else but I don't tend to play puzzle based games on pc, I think I'd be more likely to play something like this on my ipad, on the go or sitting down away from my computer. If you put this on the app store as perhaps a secondary a secondary platform's say you'd have no problems getting onto the top charts, but I suppose it depends on what your willing to price the game at 4.99 really is top end on the store...

Great work !

The model does also look a bit strange anyway, theres is clearly not brilliant topology anyway because of all that weird shading.

These models all look very basic probably no more than 200 polys, why dont you just retopo it make a small change and its yours

Just some ideas (Although its unlikely that any of them will actually be implemented)
- Perhaps a ui showing damage to a selected ship?
- Map of the battlefield ?

HI apollo, I've been following the observatories game and found you through there, at the moment i'm in the process of making my own game, and as a result of that also trying to create some concept art. Could you take a look at this: Moddb.com. It would be a great help if you could tell me where I need to look next, I've gathered some basics on lighting and perspective. Any suggestions?

GUI bug (White edge on tool tip and wireframe): Strange, Are you using unity's gui styles for this stuff or are you inputing images for the gui directly into scripts? (I did some unity gui stuff a while back but not sure if thats possible to do).

Yes LT is quite crisp and his game is written in c/c++ as far as I know, he has his own scripting language for the game, so that about says it all. He uses lots of glow everywhere, its probably what gives the illusion of crisp and reactive.

Hope my guess may be some help, or you may have already tried or knew about this.

A few UI suggestions ( I know I hate it too, and unity UI feels like writing css)
1. Check out these two games for UI Ideas, One is an RTS (Wargame Red Dragon on Steam)(Youtube Link: Youtube.com)

and the other is Limit Theory a indie kickstarted game with some really nice procedural development and its own scripting language, in this video he shows some ui examples : Youtube.com.

2. Can i make the suggestion of changing the icons of the ships in the the top corners (I am assuming they are ships) To a wire pram style of the ships themselves.

3. Also, found this really nice site a few months back for industry game debs, you might already be aware of called gamasutra.com, sometimes has some nice blogs on it.

Good luck

Do you make your own 2d graphics as they are really good, if so what would you recommend for someone starting out on 2d graphics (bearing in mind that i already know how to use photoshop).

Good luck with your game :)
