Report RSS Noesis Presents ModTV: Eternal Silence Interview

An interview with Dan Menard, Project Lead and Lead Coder behind the Half-Life 2 mod Eternal Silence.

Posted by on

Our good chums at Noesis Interactive snagged Dan Menard during his volunteering stint at GDC to ask him a few questions about his Half-Life 2 mod entitled Eternal Silence. Dan talks about how pirates were an original inspiration and how they overcame many of the design challenges presented. Eternal Silence recently released their revamped Beta 3.0 to much fanfare, go check it out now if you haven't already.

Very interesting interview. I was pretty fascinated by the way you realized a flight/FPS hybrid in Source Engine. Pretty fancy coding - you still get massive server lags on a regular basis, but the system as such is working great!
I also like the artworks, these ships look really nice.

Great interview, I really enjoyed it. Was interesting to get some backround info on how a mod team works. There are plenty of teams out there with different ways to reach their goal.

I strongly suggest using IRC for communicating with your modteam and testers. This is something we've always used over at Zombie Panic and I believe that it has really brought our mod to where it is today.

You seem to have a very dedicated and productive team, keep up the good work! I haven't even tried Eternal Silence but it looks amazing.

Great interview and good to hear how production to release goes with some key points needed in all modding teams out there. Once question, even though you have spent so much time and effort on writing your space battle/flight code, have you considered releasing the source for this part of the mod so other modding teams can make use of it while giving recognition and credit to you? Please? ;)

Excellent interview. The way you work with your team is pretty much how we're doing it with "Grayshot." We have a forum to submit progress and commune over Skype.

Amazing work on Eternal Silence! You guys did an outstanding job!
