JSDS Asagiri and Soryuu, along with small detachment of patrol boats, collaborated with a ASW aircraft dispatched from Yorujime Airbase and escorts to bring the sub to the surface and commenced boarding operations.
Shortly after boarding, several formations of unknown aircraft entered Juushin Airspace and the escorts protecting the Juushin fleet were vectored to intercept, leaving the ships and ASW aircraft vulnerable to attack.
