Schlicht is an atmospheric, cooperative puzzle game where two players take control of a shadow and a light orb on their journey across many colorful levels were they face different challenges.
The players need to cross black and white streams to finish a level. The streams deal a great amount of damage to the player with the same color. Additional the orbs also have the ability to exchange their health which is represented through their size. So if one gains health it gets bigger, while the other orb shrinks. The smaller you are, the faster you move, but you are also more vulnerable. Use your power responsibly!
With teamwork, timing and tactical placement you will be successful.
We have been spending quite some time to redesign Schlicht and make it ready for consoles. We're using more diverse colors in the flatter backgrounds. They used to have more depth, now to focus is on giving a material feeling mixed with depth and a color gradient. As an additional element we introduced bigger shapes which can give the players sligth hints or can be placed as a focal point.

New:
One important improvement was the size of the player dots and the proportions of the streams, making everything better for a big screen experience. Before the proportions were more suited for smaller screens. Another big part was the refinement of the stream behaviour, which cost a fair amount of time. Now the streams do have a clean edge and a better visual response when breaking them.

New:
With the new proportions of the streams came a lot of new and intereseting compositions, both visually and in the aspect of the gameplay / puzzle solving:
The next big part was the controls and the feeling of the little light and shadow orb. They are faster and can be controlled more accurately. The movement is implemented via unity physics, which allows more dynamic movements. For example the exchange of the players mass is reflected in their physical mass, whenever a player orb is very small it will glide more than before.
Now let's see that in action:
As a short preview of what to expect for the further features. We'll be adding some new mechanics, which we won't go public with yet, but it can be said that will introduce bigger levels which will surprise the players and give a more narrative element to it.
So there you go, some of the major points of the redesign of Schlicht. Let us know what you think!
Actually it would be great if you would help us to bring Schlicht to the next level via testing, please drop us a line if you want to become a tester. :)
Schlicht was nominated for the Ubisoft BlueByte 'Newcomer Award' at the german developer price 2014 and won the 1st place!
We are nominated for the Student Competition of the Ludicious Game Festival!
Impressive mood - a great concept. I don't know how I must called this project - puzzle or platform game. However I like the pure aesthetic and the smooth movement. Do you use Unity as an engine? I would to know how many levels will be available. I wish you the best ++
Hi Geckoo
Thanks for your comment.
We think of it more puzzle, why would it be a platform game? :)
I happy you like it, it's done in Unity. Sinc 5.3 the particle system really works well for 2D... finally :)
In the next two - three months we will reach out for tester, so if you're interested send me a private message.
Cheers
Dominik
ah I found your download, I enjoyed it but pressing "A" in the starting page did nothing.... I tried A on the Xbox controller and A on the keyboard and nothing happened. luckily I had read the info about pressing numbers 1-9 to select levels so I played it despite that problem but you should check that out.
yeah I love it so cleaver, would you add online multiplayer? Obviously this is a game where the players need to be talking to each-other at the same time to come up with a plan but most people have Skype so would just start a Skype call in the background if it were multiplayer.
Thx for you feedback!
Yes this version is the first prototype, I should work much better by now. And is also nice more polished! :)
Cool I really like the look of this so I have tracked it. Shame you don't have more interest.
can I get it anywhere?
Im developing a game too, here is a link to it Indiedb.com
Hey Hi The_Cheese_Dragon!
I'm sorry for not replying, we are still active and of course instered. To be honest I got discouraged from IndieDB, because a post got rejected.
Anyways, thx for playing, if you're still interested, we have a much better version by now, I'd be more than happy to send you the link!
I would definitely be interested in trying it if you could sent me a link that would be excellent!
That's annoying about the post... There are thousands of far worse games on here that get approved. Did you email them? form my experience it usually works although they can take a couple of weeks to get back to you. When I first tried setting up my game on Indie DB they rejected it, I cant remember what it was they rejected it for but I sent them an email and posted on a forum about it and they approved it.
For me Indie DB is the most successful method of publicizing my game for the time I've put in so it has been worth the effort.
