Sal's Grabtastically Good Time is a 2d puzzle-platformer in which the player must navigate various levels using a jetpack that operates via tank-style controls while additionally using a retractable claw to deliver packages to various animals in need.
What's New
[li]New World - We began work on a desert world, including introducing new mechanics such as the wind storm, cactus, and quicksand.[/li]
[li]Art - We rehauled and added a lot of textures this week to make things slightly more uniform in style and to have assets for the new world. [/li]
[li]Level Reworks and Analytics - We added an analytics system to get feedback on level design and adjusted some of our existing levels based on this and from playtesting feedback.[/li]
[li]Score System - We added the first parts to a score system that is based on the health of the deliverables and time to complete.[/li]
Motivation Behind Changes
Most if not all of these changes were made based on direct user feedback from playtesting. One big piece of feedback we got was that our level designs weren't fun to play and were too tedious, which is where the motivation for a new world, the analytics system, and level reworks came from. As for the score system, we want to increase replayability of levels and decided a score/high score system could do just that. Lastly, art, animations, and "juiciness" have been something that we have wanted to implement for a while but had on the back burner until we had our core mechanics more solid.
What's Next
Going forward we want to continue to flesh out our level designs and add a final snow world. There is also a sizable amount of tuning that is needed to make sure that values such as speeds, health, and score have a good feel to them. Lastly we want to implement a much nicer level selection menu.
