Sal's Grabtastically Good Time is a 2d puzzle-platformer in which the player must navigate various levels using a jetpack that operates via tank-style controls while additionally using a retractable claw to deliver packages to various animals in need.
What's New
New World - We began work on a snow world, including introducing new mechanics such as the ice tiles and icicles.
Art - We rehauled and added a lot of textures this week to make our menus more uniform in style and to have assets for the new world.
Level Reworks and Scoring - We adjusted some of our existing levels based on playtesting feedback and analytics and added more complex levels for the desert world.
Score System - We polished our score system by making it based off of the number of tries and time required for each level. We also added a high score system that shows when you have beaten your personal record on each level.
Motivation Behind Changes
Most if not all of these changes were made based on direct user feedback from playtesting. One big piece of feedback we got was that our level designs were to short and were not being played as intended. As a result of this, we changed the way the box health works and added a new world with many new levels. As for the score system, we want to increase replayability of levels and decided a score/high score system could do just that. Lastly, we were able to improve our art, animations, and "juiciness" of our menus and game elements to give the player a more enjoyable and cohesive experience.
What's Next
Going forward we want to polish our level designs and add a final level to the snow world. We also want to do some final tuning to make sure that the game's speed, difficulty, and score have a good feel to them. Lastly, we want to implement better designs for the UI and toast menus.
