Years after the events of the presumably non-canon epistle 3 sequel to Half life 2 written by Mark Laidlaw, humanity has miraculously won in the fight against the ruthless forces of the Combine, an alien race that conquers anything in their way. However, while humanity won on of their greatest battles in history and escaped enslavement, the damage to planet Earth had already been done and was irreversible, and the main protagonist of the Half life series, Gordon Freeman, is missing and presumed to be dead. Most of Earth remained uninhabitable to man, but the people had other ideas. With the rise of interplanetary teleportation technology, humans were able to find a *slightly* habitable planet and immediately terraformed it to their needs. Earth remained as more of a tourist attraction, and a place that marked a part of the tragic past. On this new planet, cities and regions were constantly being built and technology was constantly developing, one of these technologies being the ability to transfer human consciousness into robots, making death and injury a thing of the past. People could just upload their minds into these robots if they wanted to, and this made the development of the earth increase much faster. Humans also learned how to master and understand some of the Combine's technology, and as a successor to modern skyscrapers and the Citadels, 'exoscrapers' were built, which would be thousands of kilometers wide and tall, and could hold entire cities on them. Years went by, more and more advances in technology, science and culture was developing, becoming a type 3 civilization. One day, a robot named Tealbug that had an uploaded consciousness found inside a dumpster and didn't have a voice box was working at one of these exoscrapers as a chemist and an engineer at the same time. This was his first day on the job and the first day he was created in the buildings factory. Everything was going well until the workplace was invaded by an extreme military coup/terrorist group that still believed in some of the Combine's ideologies and wanted to force it upon innocent people and robots. Tealbug, absolutely terrified, had no choice but to fight for himself and his friends. He said 'it's tealbuggin time' and picked up a monkey wrench, a tire iron, a Glock 19 and a Beneli m3 shotgun and began his journey in one of the greatest battles in the history of the universe...

Refraction is a modified version of Unity's beginner FPS game game that takes place in the future (2031) and on a distant planet, with it's type 3 civilization masters at engineering and creation of robotics and advanced technology. You play as a robot recently created in a factory, however at the exact same time a military coup invades this factory and you are being hunted down. Fight your way through the game and the attacking robots. This game is currently in development and more features are yet to come. This may or may not be considered a fan made half life 3, but is set more distant into the future and takes place after epistle 3. It is most definitely a sequel, however.
