You need to learn how to smooth and harden shading, would make those models look better.
Maya=Soften Edge/Harden Edge
3dsmax=Smoothing Groups
Blender=Shading Smooth/Flat
I'm using wings3D, as you can see the renders it makes are not great , I may use blender as I have seen that it has a free license too. Thanks :)
