Port Valley is a (not so) classic Point & Click adventure for PC, macOS and Linux.

(Yes, those 90’s games where you had to control a pixelated guy using an odd white cross.)

So that's not what this is, huh?

But, hey! Don't think of this game as just a nostalgia attack!

This project doesn't only exist to 'pay tribute' to the classics or to 'take back the charm'. The goal is to borrow the old-school mechanics and use them to make something original and tell a very special story.

In Port Valley you take control of an unnamed guy fed up with his job who just wants to have a calm life… but that's not an option in this town. At least not during the mayoral elections.

In the full game, you'll see Port Valley's Election Day from three different perspectives. Three parallel versions of our main character attempting three different jobs… with the chance to regret it all and start all over again.

3Mains

Prepare yourself to overcome the crossed objectives of Port Valley's citizens while trying to understand a bigger and obscure plot that'll only make sense after witnessing the three available points of view!

I'm sure you already know the deal.

You pick up stuff, you use stuff, you look at stuff and you talk to stu… characters. All that while trying to solve a big annoying puzzle divided into smaller and more annoying ones! Yay!

Don't trust plants

Wondering what else you can do in this game?

The answer is… whatever you want to! That’s the charm of adventure games!

  • You wanna use a cat on a chair? Go on!
  • Talk to a pipe? It’s your choice!
  • Pick up a tree? Oh, boy! We speak the same language!

(As long as those funny interactions have been programmed, which is rare. You guys never read this stuff in brackets, right?)

Okay, the game is still under development, but an hour-long demo is available in English and Spanish. It's an alternative version of one of the three parts of the game: The Delivery Guy plot.

The puzzles have been simplified and the story has been modified to fit the new length, but it should work as a first taste of Port Valley's mechanics and characters.

Do you want to know if you'll hate the actual game? Then give it a try!

There are many of those!

  • Three difficulties, three plots, three mayoral candidates, three endings… three points of view of a bigger and complex story.
  • A renewed Point & Click verb interface with a non-intrusive menu.
  • Active NPCs. They're not just there to give you items. They also have their businesses and objectives, which may be more important than yours.
  • Annoying puzzles with different ways to solve them. For real.
  • Even more annoying self-aware humor. Sorry!
  • TONS of hidden secrets. I love doing that.
  • A dog.

Okay, I'm not a social networks person, but I made a Twitter account to post updates and stuff about the game and it quickly reached 7 followers!

Those are a lot, right?

UPDATE

Hmm… hi!

It's been two weeks since the launch of the demo and here's the first update. Yay!

(Characters are not so excited about the news.)

What's new?

Technical stuff

  • Fixed some issues with the video player. Some players with low-spec PCs had issues with it and that should work better now.
  • Fixed some bugs related with the volume of the music.
  • Fixed some typos.
  • The Windows demo now runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
  • Better performance. The loading times have been reduced and the game should run fine even on low-spec systems.

Example of a background video not loading (left):

Video error2

Example of the reduced loading times (left v1.00, right v1.01):

Content

  • There was something I prepared for the first version of demo but was scrapped at the last minute. That something is back now and, if found, can dramatically change the experience of the demo.

Not a Clue

There's no clue in this picture, right?

Summary: Apart from the fixed bugs, this is a much more efficient version of the demo and more compatible with low-spec systems. Also, extra content has been added for stubborn players.

Wanna give it a try?

Karen wasn't supposed to work today, so she's deciding who to sue.
