Island Hopping is a 3d retro-arcade style platformer originally developed by one of our team members for the Ludum Dare 48-hour competition. The objective is simple: don't hit the water. The player will attempt to navigate through an ever faster path of island that vary in size, shape, and point value. When they inevitably hit the water, your distance and score (among other statistics) are sent to a high score leaderboard.
Aaaaaand we're back!
The reaction to the 1.2 release was awesome, thanks to everyone who tried it! Here are some stats from the online leaderboard:
So school is over and we can finally get back to work on a new version. This will be a complete rewrite, so it should be a lot more flexible and have a lot fewer little glitches and issues now that we're no longer working off the original (very disorderly) 48 hour code.
We'll be using a custom engine that's been an on and off project for a number of months, and though I won't bore you with the details, it should be a lot easier to work with and allow for a lot more cool stuff.
We've been going over the feedback and comments and we're considering everything; some possible features (it's a bit early to tell exactly how this will all fit together, and this is just off the top of my head) include:
It shouldn't take more than a couple of weeks to get a new release out (after all, the game was originally created in <48 hours), and we'll be posting updates pretty regularly during the development, so stay tuned.
We've also got a couple of other projects that we'll be working on over the summer, so keep a look out for those as well.

I really love this game, I hope its updated at some point.
Its almost a full year since it no updates on it.
I only found out about this a few days ago,and since then ive been playing it like a maniac.
I dont know what makes it so addictive, but I start a game after another.
Every time I'm saying to myself "this will be the last game...last time for now"...2 hours later im still playing.
I really hope this will get "back up",and some improvements added to it...maybe multiplayer ?
Anyway...good job on this.
Really awesome game.
We've sadly gotten busy with too many other projects and life things. A newer version is "under development" but it is on the backburner for now. We all do hope to come back to IH eventually though, we also find it addictive :)
heh, 'shouldn't take long to get an update' '...took less than 48 hours...'
Nearly 1 year later...?
Hey, would be awesome to get a status update on this little addicting sucker :P
Do like but doesn't have skills :z
really addicting. only problem is that if you die while on a negative value the scoreboards flip its **** and displays 400 billion points~. is there any way to edit the local scoreboard?
I thought I fixed that one... guess not though, the local scoreboard files are under "[wherever you installed it]/media/local_scores/" there's a folder for each difficulty and a text file for each scoring category in those. Editing the files strangely may cause problems, so be careful to keep the exact same formatting.
