Flying Fortress is a small rail-shooter prototype developed over 2 weeks. It's dirty. It's simple. It won't look good. But it will be a lot of fun!

So I decided to make a rail shooter in a WW2 setting. My basic concept is that the player is a gunner of one twin-MG's on board of the so called B-17 "Flying Fortress" bomber produced by the USA. It is a time limited mission where the player has to defend his bomber until the drop-point is reached and the bombing run starts. Until then the bomber gets shot by the popular german interceptors Bf109 "Messerschmitt" ...

So I decided to make a rail shooter in a WW2 setting. My basic concept is that the player is a gunner of one twin-MG's on board of the so called B-17 "Flying Fortress" bomber produced by the USA. It is a time limited mission where the player has to defend his bomber until the drop-point is reached and the bombing run starts. Until then the bomber gets shot by the popular german interceptors Bf109 "Messerschmitt". The game fails when the player's bomber gets too much damage and is shot down. The player wins if he is alive when the time runs out. The player earns points by shot down enemy fighters.

For this the player can switch positions to one of the four available twin MG's in a B-17, the front, the cockpit, bottom and rear MG's. I try to get historical data for the angles of those so that every one has a different area of influence. The attacking fighters should get a advanced AI so that they dogde the fire and attack from various directions. I want that the player has to switch positions if he want to shoot them contineously.

For research and entertaining purposes I will watch some war movies like "Flying Fortress", "Red Tails" and "The Mighty Eighth" during the next days to get a comprehensible feeling for the flight and combat behaviour of these aircrafts. Maybe I find some WW2 rail shooter with a similar setting, too.

So I'm off now to make some delicious food now, so I can code the twin MG's later today :D
