In Farm Folks, live your life as you see fit--there are so many experiences to be had!
Welcome to the latest installment of our weekly dev blogs! There’s quite a lot to sift through this week, from QOL updates and world expansions to new quests and some... heavy lifting. Without further ado, let’s dig in!
Our inventory system has stayed the same for a while, and we all agree it’s high time for an upgrade. We’ve had this update planned for a long time, but this week, our talented programmer Casey’s made some awesome changes!
Simply put, your inventory and hotbar are now one and the same. Items you pick up will display on the hotbar, and you’ll be able to add and remove tools at will. Now, you’ll be able to keep an eye on items easier, and can put away unnecessary tools.
Speaking of tools, we’ve made some changes to the Trowel. It won’t show up on your hotbar like before, but it will still be used whenever a seed is selected to be planted. Now, all seeds function as the Trowel: And you’ll still be able to hold the button to switch between any seeds in your inventory!
And there’s one more change we made… can you guess what it is? I’m sure you’ll find it handy in the future!
If you’ve been tuning into Nick’s dev streams, you’ll know that he’s been working on a new area… presenting the Softshoal’s newest region, Sunshine Meadow!
Located to the north of the Lumo River, this region is filled with natural beauty. There’s things to find above and below, provided you can find one of the hidden tunnel entrances around the field. You won’t be able to see much from any one spot on the meadow, so you’ll need to explore thoroughly to find all the secrets tucked away amongst the knolls.
Llama Farmer Faye is particularly enamoured by the White Tulips that grow here. If you’re in a helpful mood, you can undertake the new Marking your Territory quest. It’s a great way to explore the meadow while giving the locals some assistance.
Now, you won’t just be able to bring home the bacon, you’ll be able to take it wherever you want! Because it’s now possible to pick up and carry animals!
This week, Ethan’s made some animations for picking up, holding, walking around, and throwing animals. Throwing animals, you ask? Don’t be concerned. Bertha’s just fine!
With our map getting bigger and bigger, Nick has been thinking about ways to make it easy to navigate. There are a few solutions in the pipeline, the first being Signposts!
These helpful installations can be found around the island, and when interacted with, will display information about surrounding locations. There’s only two in the game right now, but we’ll be adding more and more as time goes on.
Nick’s also made some additions to help new players! A guidebook about farming has been added to your house, and can be read at any time. Lost items in the Crash Course quest are now a bit easier to find, and don’t require as much platforming.
Thanks for reading this week’s installment of the Farm Folks dev blog. A lot of exciting work was done over the past week, and the whole team’s eager to get it into your hands.
