A war themed Real Time Strategy game set in the near future. Gameplay revolves around tactics, positioning, army composition, base management, economy management, recon, and multitasking ability. This game is powered by a custom built engine called "STAR" and is expected to support PC, Mac, and Linux.
It's been almost a year since my interest on Discord dwindled and updates were no longer being posted. Meanwhile I had been working on a new 3d engine for most of this year and a couple months from the previous year. Despite Unity being a great engine and very capable of this game, I have decided to use my custom engine for it and put a more organized effort.
These are the consequences/benefits of the engine change that I expect to see.
- No longer playable on the web.
- Will now support Linux because the engine uses cross platform APIs such as SDL and OpenGL. (unity might support Linux now too, but I'm not entirely sure)
- More optimizations possible because I have access to the source code of the actual engine.
- A boost in mod-ability because of the previous reason.
Game-play should stay similar to the old version of Discord.
