This past week, I have been working mainly on adding background event into the universe. So far, I have 18 of them running already. Once I add the functionality for a few more mode types, I will be able to have around 60 or so background events running behind the scenes as you play the game. These Background Events control various elements of the Astrox Universe. Market fluxuations, supply shortages and sell-offs. Lots of social and civil events. Elections, scandals, break-up and wedding announcements. These events adjust faction standings between the various groups.
I have also been in the process of creating props for the various sectors. These are visual elements that help you to identify the sectors without the need to look at the galaxy map. It also helps to break up the vast emptiness of space, providing a bit more aesthetic appeal. Most of these object will provide no additional functionality to the game... however, some will be used in storyline missions, and provide various functionality depending on the mission type.
I have also made various changes to some of the existing mechanics. Mining beams will automatically turn off when you cargo is full. This helps to preserve the durability points of the module, since repairing them is already required after heavy use. I have also changed the way that mining beams target resources. This will allow for mining beam to better connect to their target while the turret is in range. I still have a bit of tweaking to do here.
