Another team member introduction, this time the one addition to the team that tirelessly brings our UI together!

Posted by on

JeanBis - actually known as Gianmario IRL - is the man behind some of the code behind Ale Abbey's UI. So, having talked incessantly about UI these past few weeks and not mentioning JeanBis, felt a bit... off.

With the amount of work thrown at our artists at the moment, we chose to show you Jeanbis in all his meme-worthy glory. If you ever see him next to an expensive car, holding a crowbar asking to talk to Larry, calmly ask him to step away from the vehicle...

-- A few things about yourself and the games you like?

My name is Gianmario, I live in Italy, and I have been a videogame enthusiast since 1989.

Although my memory fails me more often than not, I do remember very vividly the first game I started on my PSX, Tomb Raider II. It was as soon as I got back home after the last day of school before summer... I'll remember that magical moment forever!

Back to the present, I now play all kinds of video games. I don't have any definite preferences, but I tend to prefer games with puzzles and strategy elements, even though the games I play the most are the ones I develop. That's considered "playing" as well, right?

-- What do games mean to you?

I believe that video games are the ultimate art form! They can carry in them any art (music, poetry, sculpture, etc) with the enormous advantage of adding interaction to the final user, they must not be taken only as challenges to be completed, because in addition to giving entertainment, they also give emotions and wonder, they create the memory of an experience.

-- What's one challenge you've faced while working on Ale Abbey?

Well, everything!

Developing a video game is a collection of small and big challenges, only when you emerge victorious from all these challenges, the game will be ready. This is also what probably makes game development so much fun to me!

Gianmario was able to answer these cool little questions about himself, after taking a break from working on making some of the more complex UI elements in Ale Abbey (like the ones seen directly above) make sense ;)

-- Do you like beer? Do you brew?

Of course! Who doesn't like a nice ice-cold pint?

Unfortunately, I don't brew at the moment but I hope I can do so in the future. All these talks about brewing within the team make it sound like an interesting hobby.

I do remember my father trying a couple of times in the past, but the beer had a strong yeasty taste and very little foam... but hey, it was still homemade!

You can find more information about Gianmario on Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube! Or join our Discord server and pester him there... just a suggestion.

Make sure you join us next week as we'll continue our normal flow of Ale Abbey's dev news! For now, enjoy your weekend responsibly ;)
