Play the game! (Please keep in mind that it's an early version, not a finished game!)

We have a prototype demo version which we'd like you to play so we can collect your feedback, which is welcome on the Forums!

Why will A Hackers' Hunt be awesome, you ask?

  • Made with co-op in mind - The whole game is tailored to the couch co-op experience. Instead of just doubling the number of players, the game features specific things like playing along after dying, just to make playing together more pleasant
  • Everything is unlocked - Wherever and with whomever you play, you can always access all the content in the game, without having to unlock modes or levels. The reward comes with mastering the most difficult situations and collecting all the stolen files
  • Story and Endless* - A Hackers' Hunt serves both worlds: there will be a story for the narrative-minded, but the game will go on. Since every level is randomly generated and the difficulty increases with every level, AHH is good for many playthroughs!
  • Upgrades and Add-ons - Find your favourite tools to get an edge against the threats on your enemies' computer, and discover how to use them best on the go
  • Customize your hacker* - Apart from choosing from preset haircuts, hats and glasses, you will also be able to import your own images to tweak your character!
  • Unique setting - Four distinctive themes and bosses, glitchy hacking situations and floppies to even the odds

* The story and hacker customizing are work in progress and aren't in the current build yet!

We'd like to announce both the third version of A Hackers' Hunt, and the fact that sadly, development on the game will slow down a bit so we can look at the deeper issues at hand.

About the update

There are both new features and a range of fixes and improvements that really help to make the game more playable and enjoyable. We've finally slain the beastly bug that resulted in players being stuck in walls for infinity, or until they restarted the game. So as of now, nothing should stop you from improving yourself over and over!

New ghastly bullets!

A change of focus

With this news, we'd think you should know that we're making some changes to the way we're filling in our working days. Looking at the Greenlight comments and feedback from the events we've expo'd A Hackers' Hunt at, we've noticed that the feedback doesn't really change from update to update, so we've decided to take a step back and focus more on finding out the deeper reasons for the game not hitting a home run at the first impression.

We've decided to do some extensive desk research and playtesting about the art style and first impression of the game, while we're also picking up development on our Global Game Jam game, OOSOOM, again. The reason for this is that OOSOOM is a lot smaller in scope than A Hackers' Hunt and more easy to expand with new levels and obstacles. It was also better-received at the events we showed the game at, and we feel it has more chance of becoming a polished product than AHH has.

So please follow OOSOOM if you're interested in puzzle platformers! We promise it's not only for the most skilled of puzzle gamers, so please give it a try. :)

Changelog version 0.3

New content:

  • Redesigned floppy (Add-On) icons to match the colour of the Add-On they contain
  • Revamped ghost gameplay:
    • Ghosts can now shoot again, with slower bullets
    • Ghosts with high agility can glide through the air
    • New graphic replaces Add-On interface when player is a ghost
    • All the stats from living players enhance their skills as a ghost
  • Added a pause screen that displays a hint about the effects of Add-Ons, as well as a comparison of your base stats and actual stats.

Fixes and improvements:

  • Improved tile sets once again
  • Replaced arms and tail of the Aeroparasite (Summit boss) with actual sprites because, well, they were rectangles :D
  • Fixed the hellish wall bug that broke many playthroughs! No more getting stuck in walls and waiting for fish to bump you free.
  • Removed jumpthrough platforms for consistency's sake

Your Game is fantastic and very charismatic. I love the humor. Although your art style sometimes breaks a little bit your game is rather superb.

Hey, thanks! I hadn't seen your comment earlier. The art style is definitely a spearhead thing for us right now! As you may have read, we've shifted development to our GGJ game OOSOOM somewhat, but it's definitely the plan to come back to AHH later. We just don't want to rush it because we can get a lot more out of it, I think!
