Aquaria celebrates its one year anniversary with a new HD trailer, a Mac release and an upcoming 1.1.1 patch for PC.

Posted by on

It's been roughly one year since Aquaria was released and developers behind it are still showing it love with some major updates. A Mac port was recently released featuring widescreen support, a whole host of fixes, and graphical and audio upgrades. A PC patch is slated to release this weekend that bundles in all of the improvements built into the Mac port. To celebrate, they've even created a new trailer for the event.

After a quick look through all of the media available for the game, it's easy to see the charm in the hand-crafted beauty of the underwater world that Derek Yu and Alec Holowka have created. The game was awarded the Seumas McNally Grand Prize at IGF 2007. It's earned critical acclaim from every media outlet that has reviewed it. However, there's one feature that the Aquaria community to date hasn't made much use of.

Aquaria is mod-able! Up until now, there isn't much in terms of user-generated content out there for the game save for a couple of nude sprites and a jukebox mod. I thought this game would be worth mentioning to you mod types since it's both a wonderful game and something you can sink your teeth into and make something of your own from. At the very least give the demo a go. You can purchase the game directly through their site and check out all the details regarding modding Aquaria on their forums. Enjoy!

Looks great! I remember seeing this featured in a PC gaming magazine. I had totally forgotten the name of it until now.

Wow, amazing I am impressed the visuals and game play so far, I tried out the demo at the strange doorway. This haves some Ecco's vibes with the underwater environment and such but so much better.
