It's been a tough couple of years for us, but we've finally made a huge step in getting back to where we want to be: Back auto-updating on Desura, like the good old times.
So what's new?
- Completely new sprite system
- Completely new lighting engine
- Completely new and huge map based loosely on the real world Muldraugh that streams transparently with no loading screens.
- Saving with separate world save support.
- Carpentry and construction
- Farming
- Lots of new items, weapons and crafting recipes
- Sandbox mode with customizable zombie lore
- Joypad support
- 2-4 player split-screen local multiplayer (with online in the works but still some way off)
... and much much more...
It's been a very busy day for the Zomboid team, getting the final kinks worked out, and we finally need to get some beauty sleep before our brains explode. So if you have any problems with the game, please visit our support forum for help getting going in the meantime:
A few pointers of common things that people stumble with to help you on your way until our tutorial is reintroduced with these new features explained.
E is your 'context sensitive' button. Press it to open doors / windows, and HOLD it to climb through windows. Hammering it in panic will smash the window and make a hasty escape through it.
Crafting is now done by right clicking items in your inventory. In fact, if you're ever in doubt, right click something and the option you're looking for will hopefully be there.
Combat is rebalanced to be a lot more dangerous, to combat the mindless zombie horde killing prevalent in early builds, that go against the point of Zomboid. It's always better to run if you see a horde, but if you must go toe to toe, avoid weapons such as knives and other ineffective zombie killers. Hold the mouse button to charge an attack and WASD to strafe into position, letting go to swing. Hammering the button quickly will only serve as to tire out out and make ineffective panicked swings at the shambling zombie's heads. Slow and steady, and try to time your swings to connect at the maximum range of the weapon for most damage. Swinging at a downed zombie will deliver a much more powerful blow, so consider getting up close and pushing the zombie (very close attacks will push instead) onto the floor to deliver a killer ground blow.
Happy surviving. Love you all, and apologies for the crazy delay getting back up on our feet. We're back to stay!
WB!
I keep trying to play this great game, but everytime it says not valid .exe and asks if i want to verify, i do but it does not fix it pls help
A simple re-install of PZ will fix this, it just means your install settings did not get correctly changed/
just unistall the game then install it and it should be fine
So clooose, yanking my hair in anticipation of R3. It's been a long ride, glad to see you guys stuck it out and pushed through!
Xbox pad support is not working for me (running either the 32- or 64-bit builds). The Options screen shows an overlap between the Reloading Difficulty heading and the Invert Y-Axis heading, so I can see where the options are supposed to appear, but the actual joystick options are not visible.
Also, how do we access the new split-screen mode? Can't see any option for split-screen multiplayer.
I'm running Win 7 64-bit (up-to-date with all updates).
Joypad support is experimental, and may require some tinkering. It will be improved in later builds.
split-screen requires joypad support, since multple keyboard/mice are not possible. Try unplugging / replugging joypad into different USBs so it reinstalls the plug/play drivers to that USB port, and relaunching game perhaps? Others have had some success with that. re: Y-Axis heading. Whoops, that's not even meant to be there. Will remove it in next version.
Should you get joypads functioning, to activate you just press the A button in-game (as in when actually playing), and choose whether it's a new player or whether to take control of player 1. To configure it, you'll need to edit a config file. Instructions for this are on our forum where you may get additional help getting your joypads running. As I say, we'll improve in later versions and provide interacive options menu settings for binding joypad commands, but hopefully they should work out the box once the joypads are actually recognised on game load.
Thanks. Sorted it out. :)
hows Multiplayer suppose to work in this?
I do not believe they have implemented multiplayer yet. Although, I did hear something about split-screen...
No kidding, you might even say it SAYS in the above news post that there's splitscreen support in... ;)
how do i craft and drink out of water bottles and how to i place a sheet rope
With an empty bottle in your active inventory (i.e. not in a bag or backpack) you ought to be able to fill it by right-clicking any water source (faucet, well, toilet bowl etc.). Note that if the bottle is called "water bottle" as opposed to "empty bottle", it already contains water. Drinking from a water bottle doesn't have to be micromanaged; it happens automatically when needed (liquids other than water, however, must be imbibed manually).
As for sheet ropes, you're out of luck; they aren't currently usable. Undoubtedly they will be soon, and my guess is you will then see the option to deploy sheet ropes when right-clicking windows. As a temporary and highly sub-optimal workaround, if you absolutely have to escape through a window, you can generally count on surviving a fall from the first floor with only minor injury.
love you guys, ******* A.

Email accounts@projectzomboid.com if you have issues mate :)
you can also see your game keys here:

There's no need to solicit help from random people, just contact the developers, Indie Stone. Send them an email and ask them to re-send your password. They're a friendly bunch, and I can pretty much guarantee they'll be helpful.
Actually, before you contact Indie Stone, you should probably check your old emails. Unless for some reason you've deleted it, the original email containing your password should still be somewhere in your inbox. Search your email for "zomboid" or "indie stone studios", and I'm sure you'll find it.
Woops wrong reply
Woohoo! finally, I've been waiting for ages. Thanks Guys!
That music so good for this game, just spot on.
Just had a go at the game, looks great. Just one thing, do not create journals, it creates 400 each, and when you move it between bags it moves page by page. so dont use it, there are plenty of newspapers and mags and books.
Awesome i have been waiting for a update like this in ages AWESOME :D!
Wow thats greta news :D
Amazing! and thanks for the hard work ^.^
Finaly I have a reason to use Desura lol
Also, the news is wonderful :)
YAYAYAYAYAAY!!

You mean you haven't alreayd?
YAYYYYYYYY! desura open sesame!
to fix he problem you install and reninstall
how do i drink out of water bottles and use items like a rope sheet
you automatically drink out of water bottles, so longs as they fulls. R click on any sink/toilet and you should get the option of filling said bottles if empty. Rope sheets are broken as of current 008 build but SHOULD be getting fixed shortley (fingers crossed).

The game launches and then I see the screen with the man and the women, and then there's music playing and lightning is flashing. But nothing happens after that. No menu, no nothing. Help?
When i launch the game, after it says "this is how you died" i just get a black screen, anyway to fix this? Ive uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times but still get just a black screen

I really like the way Survival mode is persistent at this stage of development. It's a nice detail to rediscover the smashed-up zombie corpses from my earlier survival attempts.
One of my characters (named Kevin Rudd) died from a zombie infection in a house that I'd just started to build into my safehouse. The next character (Peter Garrett) has now moved in... but it's a little bit sad to see poor Kevin's corpse at the foot of the bed Peter sleeps in every night.
Got this game yesterday and I love it! Hope to see more updates to improve an already 10/10 zombie survival horror.
