The Protectors of Etheria is a stand-alone mod of the game Warlords Battlecry 3 (i.e. it can be run without having the original game installed - 100% free full game). In 0.9, many of the Plaguelord units are acquired through merging different types of units together. While you can still produce some of these, there's a few which can only be obtained through merging. What makes merging appealing is that it can be done anytime and anywhere (provided you have the required units near each other). This means you can change your attack force on the fly, which is especially possible since a lot of the bigger Plaguelord units split on death - creating smaller, lesser creature that can then be merged with something else, even in the middle of a fight.

Also a fun mechanic, having half your roster be Archons (Starcraft).
