A year and a half ago, I quit my day job to focus on making indie games, aiming to break into the industry as a game designer. This weekend, I've released my first commercial game: The Last Time, a nonlinear narrative-driven point-and-click adventure, inspired by Telltale, Quantic Dream and classic adventure games.
The release of the game coincides with another big life event; this week, I started a new job as a level designer at a large mobile games studio. All the work I've done since I left my last job has led up to this point.
The road hasn't been easy; working as a solo indie dev got very lonely, and motivation was an issue. If it hadn't been for the fact that I'd run a successful Kickstarter campaign and owed it to my backers to deliver, I probably would have given up. But, looking at what's come out of it, I'm really glad I didn't.
I used Adventure Creator, a visual-scripting plug-in for Unity, to make the game. Music was by Tom Byrne aka Noisefreq.
The Last Time has been released on Steam!
After a year and five months in development, Big Cow Studios (aka solo indie dev Daniel Black) has released his first game.
