Lord of Rigel is a turn based 4x (Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate) space strategy game. Our goal is to create an accessible, yet deep, turn based strategy game with real time tactical combat that will provide a complete space-opera experience. Lord of Rigel will feature a diverse universe with young and elder races that will struggle to shape the future of the galaxy. Players can make a choice between warring elder races or forging their own alliance with a coalition of alien races including minor species. Given all the resources of a galactic empire, players can choose how to navigate through complex diplomacy and survive grand menaces invading the galaxy using an array of game mechanics such as a galactic council, espionage, research, and military force. Players can expect Lord of Rigel to be completed in 2016 and available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.

This entry of our species series covers the silicon based Tulocks!

“Erekor Prime was lost. We received only one message from the unknown aggressors: LEAVE.” -Tuada Fireblade Yalkai General

Description:
The silicon based Tulocks are able to tolerate a wide range of environments but have a very low reproduction rate. They can also directly consume minerals and have no need for agriculture. Isolationists the Tulocks maintain minimal relations with other species. Many view the Tulocks as one of the most significant threats in the galaxy.

Designer’s Notes:
The Tulocks are our silicon based species like Star Trek’s Horta and Tholians. The Tulock are enigmatic and mysterious to the other species. They tend to not communicate until entering periods of rapid expansion, and even then their messages are terse. The Tulocks can inhabit any environment type without facing penalties and don’t require agriculture, giving them major advantages. Despite these advantages, they do not engage in diplomacy and have very limited means of engaging with bodies like the Galactic Council.

In terms of their biology the Tulocks are unique in their lifecycle. They have two major life stages a mobile “polyp” and immotile breeding adult. The Tulocks that players generally engage with are the mobile polyp stages. Once a Tulock hits maturity they have to return to their planet of birth and undergo physical changes that make them immobile. These elder Tulocks fall into a “dreaming” state and fertilize the air with their pollen. Elder Tulocks in this dream state commune with the other adults and raise newborns with the help of older polyps approaching their change. The unique nature of their reproduction is part of why Tulock population growth is so slow.
