The year is 2600. The human empire expanded from the Earth for hundreds of years. Many of the colonies are defenseless, isolated by the void of space along a frontier around the Earth and its neighboring stars. You are the captain of the UFS Intrepid, UFSE's last hope for uniting this part of the galaxy.
The Durrakas have filled out the UFSE fleet. The Human-Phenokti allies that joined the UFSE brought only a skeletal fleet -- mostly Phenokti science ships, as the cost of the Phenokti wars against their brethren became sufficient to scuttle most of the fleet. Durrakas previously provided a way for the Mnoleme to reach the stars, as the Mnoleme had become isolationists who studied many computational technologies. The UFSE is a collection of technologies, and the Durrakas are the workmen of the fleet. UFSE stockpiles now comprise a massive number of manned Durrakas vessels, often composite ships like this one, which combine components sold by a variety of ally vendors. Perhaps the easiest to deal with politically, the Durrakas are a peaceful, logical people who worship utilitarianism and have a laid back view on universal politics.
