Angels That Kill
A dark detective game that tells the story of two men as they uncover the truth behind a murder that has shaken the city.

"After retiring, life hasn't been the nicest to me. The list in order from best to worst, for "the reader's" fucking pleasure. Finding my cheating wife, god . . . I can still remember that damn night. I lost the house to her "friend". Lost the kids, not because some bullshit lawsuit, but because they can't stand the sight of the man who fucked up their lives. Yeah, right, I did that to them, probably brainwashed by that bitch again. I'm just drowning in debt and alcohol. Hell I stopped giving a shit long before all of this happened . . . Only have a handful of Psilocin left, down to my last bottle of Jack. I need to go for a walk . . . clear my head of all of this shit."

- J. Baley

One of the main reasons why we decided to port the game over from batch into Unity was so that we could flush out more of the game's mechanics without it being a giant mess to try and work with.

That being said, porting the game over to Unity also presents us with the possibility of having a bit higher level of graphic capabilities than we initially intended, although that does not seem to be the case at this moment. Currently we are still flushing out the gameplay while adding new features to help the game stand on its own without focusing on the graphics so that we have a more clear direction with how we want the game to play and feel than we did with Angels That Kill.

As you can see, graphically the game is based off of the good old ASCII games that we know and love, as that gives us something to look at without having to spend a ton of time on, we like to call this, the Bay 12 Method. It has worked for them so far, so why not try it ourselves? (We aren't saying slave RPG will be nearly as convoluted as Dwarf Fortress, we want our game to be a bit more accessible from the start, but this is still a good practice for us to follow regardless.)

We are currently getting farther into the overall mechanics than we had initially planned for, but hopefully we can begin beta testing soon and flush out specific mechanics then while we continue to add more to the game world. Currently we are working on making the combat a bit more captivating for players so it gives people something to pay attention to (as the game is currently turn-based), and also working on expanding dialogue options with NPC interactions to give players a bit more flexibility in their interactions.

We are also aware of the batch version currently up being a bit broken in terms of balancing, this is something we have been working a lot on in the Unity version to make the game a bit more streamlined for players, and less of a chore/bore. A bit unrelated to balancing though, we have expanded the map from the batch version to include an over-world of a few of our surrounding counties here in Texas. The game will take place across Palo Pinto, Parker, and Tarrent county and features some of the more major cities in them (Mineral Wells, Weatherford, DFW). A nuclear apocalypse is already pretty bad, why not make it even worse by putting you in the middle of nowhere right next to a massive desert?

We are excited to see how this project turns out and would love any feedback along the way from you guys, as stated before we would also like to open up a beta demo soon so that people have the ability to see how we really want the project to turn out. You can see the list of changes between the Unity version and batch version here, and you can stop by to give us any direct commentary here.

As always though we want to thank you guys for the support, and we hope you all have a baller day!
