0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. It's a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of twelve ancient civilizations, from Iberia to Mauryan India, each depicted at their peak of economic growth and military prowess. Developed using Pyrogenesis, a ground-breaking new game engine custom-built to suit this project, 0 A.D. will give players a rich and entertaining real-time gaming experience.
Some of the new features that will be introduced in 0 A.D. Alpha 5 include new light rendering, fire/dust particles, and a more competitive AI. Factions shown in the video: Hellenes, Celts, and, for the first time in 0 A.D., Iberians.
Haha, the classic AoE construction, they build and it's "woops" complete.
I love it, especially the dust and smoke.
I have a feeling I'm going to spend hours behind this game later. The soldiers marching in the shallows is cute too :D
LOL... We hope to make building construction a little more visually appealing in upcoming Alphas. :)
i love the dust effect, its what oe needed :D
(buried)
how many races are playable ?
I guess only humans O_O' ..
Orcs too, I guess.
i guess the Goa'ud too. Hahaha XD
I'm guessing Romulans vs. Nazis vs. Gaiju.
Starting in Alpha 5 three factions will be playable as the caption says: Celts, Hellenes and Iberians. In the final game six factions will be playable, in addition to the above three: Carthaginians, Persians and Romans. No orcs though =) At least not in the main game, mods can make all kinds of things possible ;)
This last video is pretty damn cool
It seems to be coming along nicely. The overhand spears are bugging me a little, though. There's really no reason why you should hold a spear like that unless you're going to throw it, and plenty of reasons why you shouldn't. :|
I like the guy's videos, but I do not find him convincing at all. He talks a lot about individual combat, when most Greek battles were fought in a phalanx. A lot of his points are weakened by the fact that he's not carrying a shield to demonstrate, which would show his technique to be folly, but even further there is no opposing shield wall in his demonstration either, which would kill, so to speak, his theories quite handily.
1. Thrusting underarm with a low angle while standing in an overlapping Greek shield wall is impossible, which means he has to thrust underarm over the top of his own shield wall and over the top of the enemy's shield wall.
2. Thrusting over two shield walls is much easier with an overhand grip since it has a higher angle of attack.
3. "Reach", which is his main argument for an underarm grip, is not that important when the enemy's shield is already pressed against your own.
Do I see further progress in AI?
The AI has improved significantly - it attacks, defends, and rebuilds. It also now uses a variety of units, including the Lithobolos artillery weapon shown in the video.
