Running the Gauntlet

Welcome to the August Update! This time we’ll be showing off some of the creatures of Strawhart, and recapping our progress for the month. Now then, lets take a look at our first denizen of Westharrow:

Running the Gauntlet

Don't miss.

When something sets out to kill you in Strawhart, you’ll have to think laterally if you want to survive. You don’t have a sword to swing, or a bow to notch, so you can’t just attack your foes directly. Instead you’ll have to use your environment to your advantage. Over time, you’ll learn to re-purpose puzzle pieces into ad-hoc weapons, guaranteeing that even when weaponless, you’re still a threat to be reckoned with. Or, perhaps you won’t learn, and you’ll get squashed by our friend here.

A Forest Shrine

He's got a statue, do you?

If you stray far enough into the woods, you might happen upon this forgotten shrine. Its purpose is a mystery, but you’ll certainly be familiar with the creature depicted. If you want to unravel its story you’ll have to stray deeper still, in search of Apocrypha. Apocrypha are shards of lost knowledge: diaries, memory crystals, stone tablets, and the scrawlings of nameless hermits. Recovering one of these artifacts often poses a serious challenge, as they are often well-hidden or out of reach. By collecting Apocrypha, you’ll learn more about Westharrow, and the secrets it holds.

Crow Attack

A murder of crows.

Our second Westharrow native is the Crow. Once only seen as a pest to crops, something has sent these birds into a state of complete frenzy. They are harmless enough when alone and can be startled off easily. However, if you see a murder of crows descending from the sky, or hear them swarming in the canopy above…

Bomb Pumpkin

Handle with care.

Our third piece of Westharrow wildlife is the pumpkin. While it isn’t strictly out to kill you (as it is a pumpkin), you’ll need to be careful all the same. Once a staple crop in the region, the pumpkin has undergone a rapid mutation. They have become extremely volatile and can explode on contact. Luckily for you, if you can avoid blowing yourself up, these pumpkins will prove invaluable during your quest. Just don’t try eating them.

Spawning a Pumpkin

Zap the vine to grow a pumpkin.

You’ll also want to familiarize yourself with the vines that grow the pumpkins, as they’ll provide you with a constant source of ammunition. Keep in mind, each vine can only supply one pumpkin at a time, so if you want to build yourself a powder keg, you’ll need to track down multiple vines. Don’t be afraid to use the pumpkin in creative ways either. For example, if you hit one with a Concentration Zap, it’ll spark a fuse and start glowing bright blue!

PumpkinZap

Pumpkins respond differently to each of your spells.
