Nuclear Dawn is looking for new level designers to produce maps for the initial release of the modification.

Posted by on

It's been a bit quiet lately, but once again we're ready to stir it up a notch with new media and a call for development talent!

Media

The middle render is a new structure, the Resource Station, modeled and skinned by our ever-talented SquirrelyJones. Yes, those are robot arms.

The Grenade Launcher we revealed in a previous newspost is in-game and
working, along with most of the other Nuclear Dawn weaponry.

Recruitment

The Nuclear Dawn team is looking for 1-2 level designers to produce maps for the initial release of the mod.

  • Examples of previous work required
  • Experience with the Source Engine and game modifications is required
  • Expert knowledge of Valve Hammer Editor required
  • Ability to create own textures and props is a plus. We've got quite a library of excellent ND assets to choose from as well.
  • Experience with SVN and TRAC is a plus.

For more information and position applications, see this thread in our Recruitment board.

Looking good.

Strange that they took screens in a hl2 map, while they have fantastic maps of their own.

Betelgeuze: it is a test map, I just wanted the focus on the weapons.

Nice to see the mod is still going...been a long one :)

As for the guns, those textures look odd...almost as if the guns are made of iron. Too rough, light, and foggy of a texture to look like a material used for a gun. Love the designs though :)

A good update and I have to agree that the textures on the weapons look either too low res or something. I would suggest doubling either the length or height of the main file to allow more detail. Also, try using the phong shader and exponent maps as it is amazing how much it brings the models to life. Love the robotic manipulator case, nice work.

"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$baseTexture" "models/weapons/VulcanPhaser_UV"
"$bumpmap" "models/weapons/VulcanPhaser_normal"
"$phong" "1"

"$phongboost" "1"
"$phongfresnelranges" "[1 3 8]"
"$model" 1
"$phongexponenttexture" "models/weapons/VulcanPhaser_ex"
"$phongalbedotint" "1"

"$envmap" "env_cubemap"
"$envmapcontrast" 1
"$envmapsaturation" 1
"$envmaptint" "[ .40 .40 .40 ]"

}

And am sure you don't need my suggestions as you have an amazing mod there guys.

From the look of the map, the screens were taken with low-end video settings.

(Also, because this annoys me: you don't need all those quote marks unless the key or value has a space in it! Just a pet hate. :-) )

Doing it slow hopefully means doing it right. man, Nuclear Dawn was already in production, when I joined ModdB...and that was almost two years ago. Time passed without big updates.

Any idea when you'll finish this beast?
