An insight into "Diana's Lyre" Narrative! Diana's Lyre Devlog #02.

Introduction

Greetings people! Last week, we introduced you to our game's main mechanics, which were mainly focused on the toad's tongue! Today, we will introduce you to Diana's Lyre narrative, which is based on a temple in Évora!

Let's begin, shall we?

Narrative

You may ask us, "How does a toad fit in with a temple?" or "Why does the title have <<Lyre>> if it's based on a temple?", well, we wanted to make this story kind of unique, so we decided to mix in some animal characters to liven up the mood of the game! As for the lyre... we'll explain.

The Temple of Diana

Our game is set in the 60s, so in that era, the temple of Diana was still considered to be built for the goddess Diana. Having been built at the beginning of the 1st century d.C., this Roman temple is one of the best-preserved temples of the Iberian peninsula and was considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1989!

Because it's situated in the middle of the city, if you visit the temple, you can also visit the cathedral, the library, the church of Santo Antão, and the museum of Évora.

Like we said before, many people still know this temple as being created to honor the Roman goddess of hunting, Diana, due to a legend created in the 17th century. Actually, this temple was built to pay homage to Emperor Augustus, venerated as a god.

The temple of Diana will be our main environment for the game!

Chapel of Bones in Évora

Many countries have their bone chapels and ossuaries. These buildings are common in Europe and have been around for hundreds of years, with the oldest dating back to the 6th century BC. The Capela dos Ossos in Évora dates back to the 17th century and is part of the lesser-known Church of S. Francisco. It was built on the initiative of three Franciscan monks with the aim of representing the transience of life. More than five thousand bones and skulls adorn the walls, ceiling and columns, and even the exterior of this chapel, sourced from the city's cemeteries!

Narrative In-game

The story starts with an old rumor. This rumor said that a legendary Lyre from the goddess Diana is still hidden away in a mysterious catacomb, under the Temple of Diana. This story was passed down from generation to generation in Évora, and after many years, a curious aspiring archeologist decided to take the challenge of solving this rumor.

Bullshot2

Bullshot of the game

After getting some information from the villagers there, the protagonist goes into the temple. Following that, they fall through a hidden hole and see themselves stuck in a swamp-like catacomb. Our protagonist’s objective is to try to get out of the catacomb while writing in their notebook the things they’re seeing and trying to find the Lyre.

That's where we want our story to go!

Conclusion

For this second week, we showed you what the narrative of Diana's Lyre will be and how it will be used in-game! Hopefully, Diana's Lyre will be released in July 2022!

In the next post, we'll talk more about the art style and give some more concepts of the game!

We hope you have a great day, and until then, see ya!
