Release Date
As shown on Facebook and our main website, we have set the release date of the Stand Alone release for April 24th, which is in a week.
Cry of Fear will be re-released for free on Steam, where you won't need Half-Life to play it. It will be completely stand alone.
IndieDB
As you may have noticed, we have now switched over to IndieDB, or rather, the games section.
What this means, is that Cry of Fear is no longer a mod, but a game. This means that other people can create mods for Cry of Fear as in Custom Campaigns. Some examples of that are:
Moddb.com
Moddb.com

See you the 24th of April
But until then, follow us on our website Cry-of-fear.com
Or at Facebook Facebook.com
Or IndieDB: Indiedb.com
Next week? Sweet!
Hell yeah, awesome.
Can't wait!!!

And if it will standalone, could we install other half life mods without having original half life in steam ?
i really doubt it, most hl mods use hl content
(buried)
Strange, cof uses goldsource engine.
Lets put it in another angle. Would you like to play a game where there are no textures whatsoever? Because those textures and models are, what delarobe probably meant with hl content. The engine alone isn't worth anything without such content.
Actualy its worth you could install other HL mods
Great job, thank you for all your efforts!
I'm still impressed that they will release this masterpiece for free. Good work guys! Just one more week and I'll relive the whole fear again :D
My body is ready.
Hell Yeah! Cant Wait)
Best birthday gift ever! :D
Hopefully this will fix some of the bugs with all the custom rendering stuff, and I can actually play it. Congrats guys.
Hell yeah !!!! :DDDD
This is awesome! I've seen so many other people play it, but I never got to play it myself. I can't wait to jump into this game.
F*CKI' YEAH BABYYYY.
Oh god it's Feb 2012 all over again!
How are you guys allowed to make this a stand alone game for the GoldSrc engine without any legal issues? Is it because this is a free to play game?
Yes, it is free and it no longer require original Half-Life engine to play, that's why is free. Cheers
They were Greenlit on Steam.
Now for the most important question of all...
How big is the download size? (no its not a problem for me, just curious to know how big it is compared to the mod installer).
So wait how did you get it stand alone? Did you buy the license for the engine?
CoF was greenlit on steam, which is why they got the engine license for free since the game will be non-profit anyway.
Many thanks!
Awesome!
so what will be the system requirements on the standalone release?
oh...sweet!
Good job guys!
Awesome news. Will there be compatibility of mod saves?
Of course! the save game files are based of the game itself, not the stand alone engine or whatever.
Err, just found out in the forums that it is not possible...
