Post news Report RSS Cold.Shell Dev blog #8 - two busy months (2/2). Is storyline important?

Room customization, character's upgrades and loud neighbors.

Hello, everyone

TL;DR - there is a special treat in the end of the article just for you ;)

Here is part two of the "two busy months" articles. After all the progress listed in the previous article, development moves ahead.

Room customization basics are now completed. The UI for it still needs some serious tinkering, but it works and we'll polish it eventually. As for absolute minimum for the upcoming event we've prepared 3 furniture sets that one can mix up selecting each detail separately:

7 room
18 5 roomset2
19 roomset3
---room 1,2,3

Inspired with the results, it was decided to spice up the (usually boring) RPG level up system visually. So it'll look way cooler now, and (hopefully) push player to level up often:

22 armorup
---armorup

Some people were -unfortunate- lucky enough to try the full, uncut version of the game. Invaluable feedback stated that repeatedly brawling through street thugs is cool, but can become repetitive at some point. Game needed some mission type diversity. Let's step aside for a moment. I have some loud, VERY loud neighbors, who love midnight karaoke sessions. They try hard -but fail miserably- to improve their singing skills. I have occasional clashes with them, since they disrespect my (and others) sleep time. So, an idea for a mission was born. Street thugs listen to loud music and locals beg the player to stop it. You'll have to destroy the music box and put surrounding thugs to rest. And the idea is pretty cool :) For example, my wife is not so much into games, but she liked it. Here is sneak-peak of it:

---music

Also, i was surprised that some people started to ask about game's storyline and lore. It's a brawler with rpg elements, do people really want a story for that? Yes, they do. Ok, no problems. I am adding some bits and pieces of game world's lore here and there. Not just quest texts, but also environmental storytelling with hints here and there. (Thanks to Bethesda - they tell whole stories with environment. My skills are not match for them, of course. But i'll try some cool -or not- things for that).

I think that's enough for today. Now you are more of up to date with the game's progress so far.

Thanks for reading it - means a lot to me.

And a special thank you for reading my devblog articles, here is an awesome trailer of Cold Shell to check it out:
