Howdy! I've a quick question - is there any kind of persistent development across missions? I hesitate to draw a comparison to XCOM or Space Hulk, but I'm curious as to where it falls between these. Thanks for the information!

Howdy, PZ team!
Gosh. It has been a while. I'm glad to see y'all are still working on this - I downloaded it after getting my desura key and gave it a shot. It is extremely interesting, and you've made a lot of progress! Congratulations!
On a side note, though...your new interface is ghastly. I'm not sure what happened to the old one, but this one's actually painful to use. I put the game away until that's fixed. Good luck!
First - mod team, thank you so much for your hard work! This mod exhibits many brilliant ideas.
I downloaded the mod to take advantage of some of your more clever additions. Gas masks limiting visibility, classes changing the way the game plays, far more items with more variety, new inventory system, flashlights - all that is completely wonderful!
That being said, I AM REALLY FREAKING BAD AT FPS's. I realize this. I was shocked when I saw that the difficulty had been locked with no options for changing. Nonetheless, I screwed up my courage, picked a class, and ventured into the zone.
I can't do it. I can't play this game you've created. I will miss all the wonderful features you've added, but I'm taking my game back to vanilla. Enemies kill me before I even see them, they take grenades and bullets and don't die - I have tried sneaking up behind them and stabbing them...
I stumbled across a regular bandit wearing some kind of hooded coat. I sneaked up, drew my knife, and backstabbed him three times. He turned around and started shooting. I slashed him four of five more times and -nothing-. I died horribly, and just when I thought I was being clever.
I realize that many will say this is a hardcore game and I should L2P or GTFO. I understand that. To me, though, a hardcore mod means that it requires intelligence and understanding of game mechanics. Hardcore doesn't necessarily translate to artificially created immense difficulty through imbalance and overpricing of consumables. Misery in its current state is actually unpleasant to play.
Thank you again for your time - if you would consider re-implementing difficulty levels at some point in the future, I am sure I am not alone in having trouble with this. I wish you the best of luck, and applaud your creativity and effort!
I would absolutely love to play this, but my graphics card is shabby. Intel integrated card with, according to my DXDIAG, 1695mb of internal memory. I checked here and on the site and couldn't find a system requirements page. Any chance I'll be able to run it, or is it too graphics-intensive?
Well, this is a fine idea. If there's a demo so I can check to make sure it runs on my rig, I'll end up buying this.
Take the time you need, mate. You're a single dev. I do appreciate the update, though!
Oh, very nice change. I admit, I ran the game, saw the lagginess of the old version, and blew it off as an amateurish game engine. I'll be sure to give it another try when this new engine comes out.
You were good on your word, apparently. Thank you for that, it's good to be professional with promises like this. Looking forward to trying it!
Ha, what a prompt reply! I can't wait to see it.
Ehh, I purchased it anyway. Sounds like you've worked hard on this, and I admit I'm fascinated. Oddly enough I can't install the beta version. Apparently beta access is not tied to a purchase, but completely separate?
At any rate, best of luck, and I'll look forward to trying the game.
A quick suggestion - I noticed this game on the sale page, and was interested. I watched the trailer and it told me absolutely nothing about the game and was rather a turn-off. I then read the description and it sounded fascinating. Have you considered re-recording a trailer that shows off some of those elements? I'm sure there would be many people willing to do a movie-style voiceover. The combination of an enticing feature list and a more professional trailer would, I think, generate more interest.
I've noticed some modifications to the smaller quests, or at least I could -swear- some of them run differently now. Also, the meaning behind some of the quests has changed somewhat and some minor names and the like were altered or remedied. I'm not sure if that answers your question...sorry!
I'm new to this mod, as well! I found all the downloads I needed here, and they were all working:
I haven't seen non-CoP maps yet. I know the .41 lists some. I did see some things in the general area of the Zone that I'd swear weren't there when I played Vanilla (like the modifications to the Ark - perfect sniper's nest, there). I found some blue arrows on my map that gave me a shortcut between zones without paying, maybe if you looked for some of those?
Smrtphoneusr, I dug up my year-old info for this site to thank you. I installed .41, and it's a breath of fresh air - not only does the Zone feel rather more alive and FAR more dangerous, but the amply rewarded parkour and item hunts remind me of my favorite old-school shooters, where tiny hidden rooms would yield marvelous little stashes or early access to weapons.
I really have no complaints. I did notice some of the descriptions are missing, which I suspect will be added as time goes on (being purely immersion fluff, this seems eminently sensible). Again, thank you for the time you have invested in this modification. I am thoroughly enjoying it, and I expect great things of .45. I am impressed by your generosity and programming aptitude.
Well, I saw it pop up and said "Meh." I came back later and looked at it again, took time to watch the videos, and said "Hmm." I love Dwarf Fortress but am not bright enough to play it properly, so I decided to give it a try...
...and I've spent hours playing it. HOURS. I just made a door and felt extremely smug. You've done an excellent job so far, and I love it. I'm looking forward to seeing what complex mechanisms I can use to accidentally massacre my gnomes next! (My favorite so far: my gnome removed floor tiles until he was trapped, and refused to step down onto the dirt next to him. My other builder decided to take a nap instead of replacing tiles, and the gnome in the middle died somehow. I suspect thirst 'cause I got distracted).
By which I mean - I'm sure it's not intentional, but some of your screenshots seem to have placeholder textures. I know you wouldn't release with those. Might want to check that.
Ermm...might want to check your sidewalk. Your placeholders are showing.
To be honest, mate, the game looks very promising. I'd be here beating down your door to stuff my grubby cash into your wallet if I knew whether it would run on my machine and how it feels to play. I don't resent the price you're charging one bit, but to be honest with you:
1) I'm not paying $10 to your e-store for an alpha, sorry. I like buying things through websites I'm familiar with.
2) Desura's version is too high an investment for me based on a short video and some screenshots. They look nice, yes, but I'm waiting for a demo.
I do hope I'm not coming across as hostile. I'm a teacher, not a game developer - I can't tell you how to do your job. I played Steel Storm for an hour or two after I got it in a Humble Bundle, and it was pretty decent. You people seem to have talent! I just know these are my reasons for not taking part, and others might share them.
Best of luck on your game, though!
Oddly enough, content creators still need to eat and have a home, so they insist on being paid. It's very strange, isn't it?
This game's artwork reminds me strongly of scifi novel covers from the 70's - all bizarre neon's and erratic coloring on everything. I don't really mean that as an insult, either - I'm a bit of a nostalginaut myself, and it gives the game quite a unique look.
Spelling aside, he made a game. You made a forum post. Which is remembered longer?
I just noticed in the control list that you can land a ship. Are the ships implemented yet? :D
I seriously thought the old version was meant to be in constant bullet time. :D
I am quite excited - it runs great now! Thanks, Phr00t!
