So in a way Palpatine just talked him to death :D
Pulp's impassioned and interminable speech must have been exasperating, so Mr. Plague was bored to death and he fell into eternal sleep subsequently.
I think Plagueis's death could have been better
A final force show-down would have been appropriate. They would unleash lightning bolts at the same time and they'be be locked in an exchange of this raw energy.
Pulp would emerge victorious directing his former master's power against him. Plague would pass out from exhaustion and Pulp would finish him off with a force-choke.
On the other hand, Plague hadn't slept for a decade, so it was easy to get him drunk and drowsy. Pulp easily but cautiously terminated his master.
