Love all things Sci-fi and fantasy, the Sins of the Prophets, Dawn of the Reapers and Dawn of victory mods for Sins of a Solar Empire are what I'm really waiting for and joined this excellent and brilliant modding community. Currently learning skinning and texturing and I have experience in the field of codding I have several concept art images that I'm thinking of making into my own mod once I have aquired enough skill.

Is there any way to randomize the grids that ships line up on? It looks a bit unnatural, especially with so many ships.

How does it look unnatural? I'm not dismissing your view, I just don't understand it.

He means when you assign ships into a fleet, they form that multiple-layered broad formation like the left column of the picture and maintain it even in combat. I guess it just doesn't scream "CHAOS!".

Also strategically, it doesn't really offer much other than all ships being able to fire at once. I imagine there'd be an additional layer of strategy that comes with formation variety if it's possible (and also an AI that doesn't concentrate fire on one ship). Say you have a badass dreadnought that fires slowly but has weak strikecraft defense. To compensate, you screen it with AA destroyers and a couple cruisers for minor ships the dreadnought can't be bothered with.

I know, too much for Sins. But we can dream ;_;

Firstly the ships do not maintain the formation even in combat. It becomes a **** storm with ships flying about everywhere.
Secondly the ships being able to fire effectively and together is the difference between losing your entire fleet to a single Reaper, to defeating it with onlyh losing a dozen or so cruisers.
Thirdly, Dreadnaughts have a longer range in comparison to other ships so they are already at the rear lines firing while protected by cruiser and frigates along with strike craft.
The only reason the ships formed up like this is because I directed them with a move order and even still, the ship placement within each of the walls of ships is random, with each consisting of Quarian, Turian, Asari and Human ships.

@1 hmm, guess I've been in too many vanilla titan engagements where the tiny ships all line up and such

@2,3 ah ok, it was a made-up example. I guess my fancy schmancy battle plans won't work against apex civilization giant synthetics and all that.
