Jay "Rampant Coyote" Barnson has been a gamer and game developer for a frightening number of years. He got his professional start right our of school working for SingleTrac making best-selling (and some not-so-best-selling) games for the Sony Playstation and PC, including popular titles "Twisted Metal," "Warhawk," and "Jet Moto." After years of joy and frustration in the mainstream games biz, he struck out on his own as a part-time indie to make his own games. With his latest title, Frayed Knights: The Skull of S'makh-Doan, Jay has focused on the unruly beast known as the Role-Playing Game, the rock upon which many an indie has wrecked. Embracing old-school turn-based combat with a party of adventurers in 3D first-person perspective, and a tongue planted in its cheek, Frayed Knights is both a return to old-school RPG gameplay and a quest for new areas to innovate to make the style as fresh and as fun as it was two decades ago.

Okay, Satazius was crashing the Desura client when I tried to install it - to the point where it crashed the client whenever I tried to run Desura. :(

Anyway, my solution was to use the Satazius Zip in the "purchased downloads" section of this page, and move the resulting folder to my Desura/Common folder. While it still doesn't show up as being "installed" or able to run from the client, at least now the client runs without crashing again.

Thanks, SD! I have the same kind of backlog, so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. It can be tough when you see how many games you haven't only not played much of, but haven't even installed yet (dang bundles!), and try to justify *ONE MORE GAME*.

I appreciate it, and hope that you enjoy it!

Having exactly the same problem. Haven't monkied about with it to find a solution yet, just equally curious for an answer.

The 50% sale continues today - plus a give-away of another game. Answer trivia (which you can actually find out just by playing the demo) to win a chance at another free game:

Yeah, I suppose I was being overly generous to Desura.com by not linking to a competitor. :) I keep hearing that Greenlight is going away, but it may be a long time before it does.

Hmm... just got it and it doesn't launch correctly. The Desura launcher is calling AxF.exe, but the actual executable is AnF.exe

I ran it from the directory with the real executable, and it seems to work okay.

No problem. Fortunately Desura contacted me about it too (VERY responsive - these are good guys!) and helped me figure out what was needed.

I was confused. I've got the standalone version uploaded to Desura, though I'm not entirely sure how you download it . I didn't realize Desura offered that! My bad. Anyway, let me know if that works or not.

Yes, though it would be bad form to post the link here. But I'm sure you can find it. Some folks I refer here because they really prefer having a client manage it for them.

We haven't committed to a Linux version yet. We've got a developer working on the port to Mac, though, and when that's done we are going to talk about doing a Linux version.

The arrow keys are already bound to movement. The WASD keys are a bonus (or, if you prefer, the WASD keys are standard and the arrow keys are the bonus).

Most of the non-movement "hotkeys" are rebindable.

New review at RPGamer. Not as great as some of the others - the reviewer didn't like the slower pace of combats or the amount of variations in attack damage (old-school randomness), but otherwise had some great things to say....

@booman - Cool. Hope you like it. It's inspired by a lot of older classics, but adds some new ideas as well. The game started as a "quick and dirty" project, and really evolved into a pretty big, meaty game.
