This is a WIP of the diffuse texture.
This is more than just a colour and material block-out. This also includes an ambient occlusion map, and the first stage of breaking up the solid colours has been completed.
Different artist have different ways of doing this, but I typically use either the 'sponge' or 'noise filters to achieve this.
Now this has been done I will add further 'grunge' layers to make the diffuse more weathered, and to highlight the hard edges on the model.
For the pillars on the raised triangular platforms, I am trying a dark granite type material. If this does not work out, I will default back to a more standard dark grey painted metal.
Even though this is a practice model, I am imagining where I would have lights for a mod ready asset (the afore mentioned granite post, would be one area, as well as the standard aircraft warning lights on the tip of the 'aerials').
Looks bloody awesome!
