Dark Scavenger

Game review

Gameplay Review: Youtube.com

Dark Scavenger has to be one of the most bizarre concepts for a game I have played in a long time, Adrift in space and picked up by a motley crew of Aliens who you must help or die.

It is very reminiscent of the old choose your own adventure books like Final Fantasy & Lone Wolf, with choices to be made and a simple combat mechanic.

I do like the crafting mechanic though for every item you pick up it can be turned into a useful item by one of the aliens, either weapons, items or allies.

It's definitely worth checking out if your looking for an story based game that you can play at your own pace and not worry about time limited mechanics.

+ Weird/Bizarre plot
+ Fun cartoon style graphics
+ Unusual crafting mechanics
+ Great characterisation
+ Play at your own pace, no time limits per decision/action

- Only playable in windowed mode at small resolution
- Combat can get confusing when you have lots of weapons/items and allies

I Shall Remain

Game review

Gameplay Video: Youtube.com

I Shall Remain is like playing inside a film noir zombie movie. Set after an alternative end of WW2 when a Nazi infection filled the world with Zombies.

With an in depth story, character development, quests and much more this game will take you to the heart of the zombie infested America.

+ Film Noir Feel
+ In Depth Story/Lore
+ Character Skill/Levelling System
+ Multiple Zombie Types
+ Day/Night Rotation
+ Large Choice of Equipment

- UI very cluttered, too much to look at all at once.
- AI friends do not always help you in combat

Vitrum

Game review

Vitrum is a first person puzzle game that uses power crystals to give you temporary powers.
Each crystal has its own specific use such as high jump, speed or reverse gravity.
You can hold one power in each hand so you can combine the skills to solve puzzles.

It's a fun game that will keep you using your brain to complete all 45 levels not to mention all the user created content made with the inbuilt level designer

+ Unique multiple crystal power mechanic
+ 45 basic levels & user created levels
+ Relaxed soundtrack
+ Built in level editor/designer
+ Simple control system

- Lasers can be hard to spot
- Slightly too much bloom effect from the wall lights making a fog like haze.

Rabbit Hole 3D

Game review

Video Review: Youtube.com

Rabbit Hole 3D is an interesting concept in puzzle games. Based on Alice in Wonderland it i all about the first chapter of the book and falling down the rabbit hole.

You must avoid the words that make up the first chapter of the book as you fall down the hole hit a letter and you have to start again. As you progress the games gets faster and more difficult as twists and turns appear in the hole.

+ Simple but fun
+ Great soundtrack and voice acting
+ Direct link to a classic novel
+ Practice mode so you can play later sections without totally restarting.

- Controls jerky as you move by whole scaled up pixels not smoothly
- Easy to get angry at making silly mistakes.

Slip

Game review

Slip is a side scrolling platformer with a unique colour changing mechanic set in a blocky Minecraft style world.
You need to be fast and ready to change colour at a moments notice to complete the levels and defeat Steve.

Some blue items need you to be blue to use them, Some red items need you to be red to use them.
Some blue items will kill you if your blue, Some red items will kill you if your red.

A great fun game but may end up driving you to your wits end :)

Curiosity (The Concept)

Game review

Video Review: Youtube.com

Set in a space setting you jump from platform to platform pushing buttons and solving puzzles to get to the level exit. With fantastic backgrounds, music and stylized platforms that remind me of a Rubik's cube this game is a joy to play.
