No the demo dumps you to the title screen with no warning at those 20 days. Pretty sure though its autosaved and if you buy the game you can pick up where it left off

I don't know why people care that much about getting steam keys.

You launch it from Desura, or you launch it from Steam - essentially the same experience.

No, I just don't get it.

This game is lots of fun. I love how it makes fun of the genre itself. Like in the very beginning you cannot walk backwards but you get a "'artifact" that allows you too. LOL

If you think you would enjoy something like Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (but with a very Japanes twist), this game is for you.

So I already found a way to break things. Do NOT use the "Stone of the Alpha" while in the boat...

Also I have a bad flicker in full screen mode.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit edition

Proc - AMD FX - 8120
Video - Nvidia GTX 560 Ti (driver version 296.10)
Desktop Resolution - 1280 x 960

Hopefully that is at all useful to you. If you had a dedicated website, I would post this there instead.

I was surprised to see that my PC controller worked with no programming needed. No documentation said anything about this, so its a pleasant surprise to get to play this like an old console type RPG should be!

I would also note that skills need re-balanced. As is, I see no reason to use them at all over the all-powerful auto option. But yes, I realize how early along the game is. Keep up the good work!

As I write this, I have only played the demo. I know at least that I like your artwork style and the old school battle system.

I would recommend for the demo allowing a little bit of walking around the dungeon where the boss is found, going though whatever equip/stats/etc screens you may have, and maybe a puzzle room(if you have such things) before encountering the boss. You could just install a "locked" door to prevent the players from leaving the demo dungeon.

You might consider making a seperate "build mode" executable, where in the delete tool still exists, and you might move the raise/lower terrain functionality there instead of the main game executable. Same for adding/removing liquids.

Those are good tools to have at your disposal, but probably not in real time during the game. Its all to meta, if you know what I mean. People should at least have to save, exit, and then make these changes. Any things that can be done to the map in game should be actively done by the townspeople.

That is extremely common when playing pre-release games.

I guarantee the issue is that you don't have enough mills. Just because the mill isn't occupied doesn't mean you have enough. There is a cooldown upon each use. I have NEVER had wheat piling up when I had abundant mills. They always grab the wheat up and immeadiately mill it, only then disgaurding the flour on the nearest tile(I wish they would store it right after).

Well at least unless you install BlueSteal's modpack. WIth it, you can build apple and pear farms. I haven't looked yet to see if its updated to the new version.

Aside from that, XML modding can make it happen.

No, the update isn't out yet. I believe they said it will be about a week, absent any problems that is.

But I have a better answer. It will be ready... when its ready.

Til they change this, I would suggest that you put some doors up that must be passed through to enter the dungeon. Right click on the doors and lock them to prevent anyone wandering in/out. You might want to have a bit of food on the locked end though for your soldiers.

Otherwise, you can manage your stockpiles by right clicking on them and choosing what can go in them. Civilians will not go underground and collect spiderite (for example) if there is no stockpile to accept it. Unfortunately, you must do this for every container individually as well - unless they rework the container system a bit.

Supposing you have music options down the line - like the ability to choose your own files to play - FLAC support would be a godsend since that sadly gets overlooked by game developers.

Also, if you do record professional musicians for your soundtrack, again the FLAC format would be preferred by any audiophiles like myself. FLAC tracks can put into the OGG containers you are already using. Its lossless compression, so the files are smaller than raw PCM, but no quality loss at all.

At least you aren't using MP3s, as there is no reasonable excuse to use them in modern games what so ever.

Yeah I almost think they shouldn't function until covered by a roof(unless underground). I also wish you could make them 2x2 or at least 2x3. I don't really see the need for their bedrooms to be that big. Although the size could have an effect on happiness(not sure if it currently does). That would give people more choice in design.

I would agree. Although that does add some difficulty - which can be a good thing. I do think the food consumption needs tweeked a hair. Or better yet, the consumption rate(and maybe other things like sleep rate, happiness modifiers) could be tied to a difficulty setting :)

I know something like a difficulty setting would be a ways off in the future, but its something to consider.

Oh that all sounds nice. Is there any particular reason not to build habitation/dining halls/etc underground? If not, that would make for more compact, easier to defend towns. Technically I would prefer to do that, but I could see that effecting happiness a bit. You could decide things like - absent torch lighting - everyone moves slower underground. It would make sense anyways.

Also, can you build a mill underground? I would think something like that would not be allowed - how would it be powered without wind?

The game is enjoyable thus far. I do have a minor complaint/suggestion. The storage barrels placed on stockpiles have an issue. When specifying that only wood (for example) and material containers should go into a pile, you have to seperately configure the countainer with the same material restrictions.

This can be quite the hassle if you utilize many containers. That is clearly less that optimal yet still acceptable... if not for these villagers moving those mat containers around. A container full of wood getting moved to my stone stockpile is annoying. They take no notice of what is in the container relative to stockpile settings. This noticably hurts efficiency.

My suggestion is that whatever the restrictions placed on a stockpile, those restrictions should be inherited into the mat containers within them.

I might have a second suggestion, but one I imagine is already on the to-do list. Something like an assignable job system. I might want a few concentrating on harvesting apples(or whatever) despite my order to cut lumber or mine. I may want someone concentrating on building stuff exclusively. Of course I may want someone dedicated to milling wheat and baking things. ETC ETC.

Seems to happen as long as you are keeping your people fed and you give them all "personal rooms" (which just means a 3x3 grid and need not actually be its own seperate building). If you have the space, they seem to come.

Well this game does seem to be inspired by Dwarf Fortress, but there are some key differences.

1. It actually has graphics - and Toadyone seems to have made it clear that this is not in Dwarf Fortress's future. You can get some limited unofficial sprite packs, but they are very limited by the game's very limited implimentation of them.
2. The UI is a hellova lot easier to use - even though its clearly a work in progress.

Keep in mind that Dwarf Fortress has been developed for years, and this is still a pre-release version - so yeah with that in mind Dwarf Fortress would be more complex. Certainly there are things this game need to better develop and things to flesh out... but it is still comparatively young. I think it has good potential for sure.

I only played the demo, but come payday I intend to buy. I look forward to seeing how this develops.

(buried)

So I install your demo to check it out...
and it lets me play for something like 3 minutes?

What the hell is that?! How exactly do you expect a person to decide the worth of your game like that? It would be insulting to all demos to call this a demo.

All I really get to experience is that I am falling from the sky and then I run around on the ground for a minute or so.

Then I notice that I HATE the look of your guns when held. I play plenty of Minecraft and even Dwarf Fortress, so its not like I am a graphics junky. But the thing I think I hate about it is how badly they match the rest of the in game graphics. They are an eye-sore.

Then I was so very promptly booted from the game. The process that was suppose to excite me and immerse me in your universe instead served only to be a great annoyance. Since I scarely got to play, whatever great elements that I might encounter in this game(assuming there are any) are unknown to me. So I must pass on this game. Its your fault for releasing such a "demo" as this. I suggest changing your strategy here lest more people be turned off to it as I have.
